Caller: Message on computer screen

This number is used by fraudsters/scammers to induce people who have a message on their computer screen that indicates Windows Defender has found something untoward.
Upon ringing the number (generally answered by people with Indian accents) they attempt to get access to your computer, licence details, credit card numbers to "repair" your computer.

A number of my clients (I am an IT professional) have reported seeing this scam.

Anyone seeing this message on their screen should shut down their computer by holding down the power button until all indicators/lights, etc. have gone out.

these numbers should be taken out of the system, This trojan thing came in very loud.
I don't answer calls until I see who it is. But this one arrived suddenly.

Caller: Scam claiming to be Microsoft.

Friend clicked on recipe link on default Microsoft Edge home page.
Warnings with "bells & Whistles" and voice saying not to turn computer off and to ring this number. 1800 950 478
I got her to press <Ctrl> <Shift> <Esc> to bring up Task Manager. Right click on Browser name (in this case Edge) and left click on "End Task"
Browser closed and problem fixed.

Same scenario - called the 1800 950 478 number and was told by Sarah (Indian accented Lady) that my computer had a trojan virus that needs to be fixed straight away. I switched off my computer which irritated her extremely , She was insistent I open a "particular" web page so She could diagnose my PC problem. I queried her bona fides then hung up. Moments later I received a call from the same Woman on (02) 4067 5489 who told me aggressively not to hang up , to turn my computer on and engage the page She was specifying. Again I hung up.
After checking Microsoft's Support page they clearly indicate they NEVER list telephone numbers - all contact will be via your PC etc. etc.

Same story except I was unlucky enough to get a response and was subsequently diverted to someone in the USA. Only when they asked for my driver licence and passport details did I click to it. I wasted hours on the line.
The initial lockup comes with a persistent visual and audio warning not too switch off. That is absolutely what needs to be done to kill the attack.

Caller: Computer screen blocked

uUnder the guise of Microsoft advising a breach of trojon spyware and access to passwords for bank access, e/mail and photo files. Rang the 1800 950 478 no response. Seems like an elaborate scam to access your personal data.
