I received a text message from 0491 257 359 which thanked me for purchasing a camera from AMAZON for $2,499.99AUD. Then said, if NOT you please contact (1800 749 142 (which was a link). I checked my bank account and nothing had come out. I later called this number (without pressing the link) and the phone number rang for a second, then hung up. Its a phishing scam! DO NOT CLINK ON THE 1800 phone number link!

I had not made a purchase so I checked my bank accounts and nothing had been withdrawn. I did NOT click on the phone number. I can only assume this is a phishing / scam. Beware!!!!

Pretending to be from Amazon send text saying order for several thousand dollars been charged to your account, when you call them they have details of your Amazon account including the last four numbers of your credit card and ask you to give them full credit card number… They are nothing but a low life scammers I think in India so do not even call them back they are not Amazon they are Scamazon

Scam alert. Had a text message 'confirming' an Amazon purchase of $2500 Apple Mac. "if this was not you, please call 1800 749 142". Spent half an hour supposedly cancelling the transaction. Call taker sent me an Amazon TFA code to verify my identity. I thought. She actually was logging in to my Amazon account and changing my password, triggering the TFA code to be sent to my phone. Which I then read out to her, to "prove" my identity (doh!). It's all so clear now, but at the time seemed logical, which is why it's so cunning. I was almost on to her; when I checked my email, there was a new log in, which was her, but I thought was the "hacker" who had made the "purchase". By logging into my account, she was able to "prove" she was from Amazon.
Upshot was that the alleged transaction was allegedly cancelled and my credit card was allegedly cancelled. Warning bells. However, for the "refund" I needed to provide another card so that she could credit the refund. If the transaction was cancelled, why did I need a refund? She offered her employee id and as I poised with pen and paper, surprise surprise she hung up.
My bank has confirmed this scam has been hot over the last few days. No false sale actually takes place, they are after the full credit card details to which to make the refund and off they go. Their strategy when awry when I insisted I didn't have another card; they wanted my husband's card details.
I'm not stupid, but this was so believable. You think you've been hacked and the number you call for help is the hacker.

A message from Amazon that I had ordered a printer. The number to call if it was not me was 1800 749 142. They wanted my bank card number to credit back the amount of the purchase. I checked my bank and there was no payment taken.
Hung up
