Caller: Harry Liam

I received a call from No Id number. He told me his name is Harry Liam from Australian Taxation Office, and said the call will be recorded. He said my account has problems, so straight to ask me my DOB. I told him I did not give it on the phone, then he gave me the number 1800 008 540, also told me to check this number online to ensure it is the ATO number. Certainly, I checked it. The number is report scam number for ATO. It is a joke, who would call a report scam number to check the account information?
So do not need to call back ATO! ATO will send a formal letter if your account has any problems!

A male called my wife and asked for her date of birth. We know not to give personal information over the phone and the ATO warns of this sort of scam. Our phone showed no caller id or number. He gave his name as Paul Ingles, said he was from a call centre in Melbourne and could not give a number to call back. He gave us the number 1800 008 540 to verify his status. We have already told the ATO to contact us by mail as MyGov never works, there is nobody to ask for help and we were sick of spending hours of wasted time on this. I called the number and after a 10 minute wait a female confirmed that we had received a call from the ATO and confirmed Paul Ingles works there. I reiterated that we do not give personal information over the phone and requested they send their enquiry in a letter. The female from the ATO could not see any event on our records her computer that would require a phone call. This is our taxes at work.

ATO Female using the name Michelle Clark tries to get your personnel details
checked with ATO on this number that she gives you and no such person works for them .then she rings back and has another go absolute scammer

This number is currently being used by scammers as a ID check then after you have checked the number out online and you will find out it is the genuine ATO number they ring back but notice the number stays private on your phone it is a scammer but actually from a different number although they claim to be ringing from 1800 008 540

Michelle Clark from ATO is a SCAMMER

A woman by the name of Michelle Clark rings up claiming to be from the ATO number shows up as private when she calls she then asks you to check the number 1800 008 540 online while she is on the phone claiming to be from this number she the solicits you personnel information from you after hanging up on her I rang the ATO they dont have anyone with that name .

A female called my husband from a private number (the number was not displayed on his phone) introducing herself as from ATO. She told him that he had faxed some forms to ATO and she wanted my husband to tell her his Date of Birth. My husband asked for her name and her manager's name. She told him her name was Lai Au her manager is Sophia Kruzan. My husband said he never faxed anything to the ATO. She siad it is an urgent matter, she needed his details straight away otherwise he would be penalised. He refused to give his details to her and asked for ATO contact number. She gave him this number 1800 008 540. What a SCAM!!!! Watch out!

I just got a missed call and message from this number 1800 008 540 asking me to call James Anderson from the ATO regarding tax evasion. The number he left was (03) 8362 3245 to call him back andI should " take the matter very seriously and not ignore the call". He had an accent. (American?)
I instead called the ATO scam watch and they confirmed it was a scam and have reported it to the police.

Very believable middle aged Aussie fem. tried to get personal details .

Just had a Call From ato private Number with thr name Jasmine , Asking For personale Information . I refuged they asked me To call back On 1800 008 540 i did And there is no record That Some One had called me .
This is something hightly Smart system .
Using the official ATO to confirmed their dodgy call and call back later for the personal information .... why they don't call my agent or my accountant for like they do for the last 20 years ????
Why call me ??

Received a call from the ATO and they gave me this number to call back to confirm its not a scam. I instead called the ATO on 13 28 61 (published on their website) and selected 4 for the scan department and they looked up the log calls made and confirmed it was correct.
When I called back it was so weird they are chasing me for BAS lodgements which were cancelled back in 2002 but are saying I need to lodge BAS' for the past 14years even though they have records to say it was cancelled in 2002 on the system. I can see why people would think these calls are scams.

LOL this number is legit for the Australian taxation "reporting scam" number.

just got call from a private number telling me they are ABR and asking if i am my full name, this number claiming to be the ABR, told me to call 1800 008 540 i guess its totally feasable that anyone could look up my details online and easily attach a number to it to dial. anyway im calling the ABR now so will find out shortly as She left her full name apparently and an extension to call back on, so far ABR says that sometimes the Tax Office will call on behalf of ABR, and infact after getting on the phone to the ABR number it was the ATO saying that i had dialed them and not the ABR, which is untrue i got this number from ABR website. ANy way she had said that on the record system that it showed no one had called me.

NOW on hold to ABR number again, dont know whats going to happen when they pick up, maybe as i pressed option 4 for general enquiries as opposed to a specific enquiry it went to ATO, nah it went to ATO again, anyway i called the 1800 number and trolled the people there i answered inappropriate answers to the questions they asked and he seemed very caught out obvious by their HESITANT and RETRAINED very HEAVY breathing upon non conformity, im gonna call back from different number and ask to speak with someone give them a false name to source out what info they are after.

I had a call and message from the same number... I spoke to the ATO and they confirmed it is definately an ATO number.

Feedback to them... if it is genuine - it should not be a blocked number. I will never give out any personal details to a blocked incoming call. Also - they should have a way to identify themselves as acting for the ATO if that is the case. And Kim... I would argue that I would be a dumbass NOT to ask questions before giving my personal details to someone I can't ID.

You dumb asses. Call the personal tax line on 13 28 61 and they will confirm the number for you. This number is set up especially for this campaign, that is why it is not publicised. I called them and they just asked a couple of questions to identify me. I have just received my $900 cheque that I didn't even realise I was entitled to. My advice: do your research and call them! (I'm sure it will be worth your while)
