Got a text from supposedly westpac asking me to call 1300 720 314 or drop into a branch. I called the westpac main number and they confirmed this is a scam. SCAM SCAM SCAM. I called the 1300 number and talked to a nicely spoken australian accented man. They're pretty experienced...span a story that I could call the westpac helpline and confirm his employee ID number. Bastard

NOT a SCAM..I received a text asking to call the same 1300 number or go to a branch. I was very wary for a range of reasons. I called the number. Asked the person for their name and staff ID number. I then called westpac and asked if they were actually doing this process and they verified the number is associated with their customer reidentification team, who also look after st George and Bankwest. She confirmed the persons name based on the staff Id number I gave her. SO it seems legit to me.

Caller: Unknown "Westpac" Received phone call a couple weeks ago from "westpac" and left a message to call their number to confirm details etc. Checked this page and obviously a scam. Received a 6 page letter from "westpac" today asking for info, including identification docs (drivers license, birth certificates etc). Letter looks a bit fake but would easily be viewed as the real deal. Gives me 2 options - send info back in reply paid envelope or visit a branch - most people would just send it back to save a trip. A quick online search of the return GPO box is not Westpac - comes up with a random wealth company but no website. Scammers are going full on now - main thing to remember is don't give out private details to anyone or send in the mail to someone that has made contact with you.

Do not call the number it’s a reverse charge, you will be billed for the call. That’s why they leave you on hold for ages.

This is the number I was given by my bank to get a problem fixed. It's a Westpac number (also St George and Bank of SA who are linked with Westpac) called KYC or Know Your Customer. I get why people think it is a scam but it's legit. Always hang up and call the number back as numbers can be spoofed when calling you.

Caller: Letter scam I received a physical letter with a westpac envelope and st George letter head inside. It didn’t look right so I googled the number it asks you to call to verify your information and landed on this page. I wish I could add a pic of this letter because these scammers are getting pretty sophisticated as it looks almost legit.

Caller: Westpac SMS from westpac. Got 2 of these one to respond in 14 days the next to respond in 7 days. Looked up westpac contact numbers and they did not match so I Googled it and arrived here. The message was addressed to the name on the account. The account was a business account that was closed years ago, so they have a list from somewhere.
