Caller: It was an SMS, possible from a spoofed humber

Someone is sending SMS messages regarding outstanding debts, and giving a link to click (don't!) or, if you prefer, a number - 1300 655 805 - which is actually a number NSW debt recovery, possibly for traffic fines.
Be careful. The number the SMS was sent from is a mobile phone registered ro a D. Smith, who happens to,live in Qld. Look at it yourself - mine came from 61 409 481 369.
I got the SMS this morning and find it a bit hard to believe the NSW govt wants me to pay an overdue fine of $109.95 dor nothing speciified; has sent me no previous notice or requests either vial email or SMS; I don't live in NSW; I haven't visited there in over 20 years; and have never driven a vehicle there.
And why would a Mr Smith in a unit in Torquay Qld be doing this for the NSW dept of revenue? On a Sunday?
Yes, if it's a scam, some people may call the genuine NSW number and all will be well, but the truth is that more people will click on the provided link,, given their curiosity and it being a Sunday. A link, by the way, which is not the genuine link for https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/contact

Scam

Posted on June 23, 2024

Received a text on my phone from 0474 798 103, which does not register on reverseaustralia, saying late processing will incur further penalities. Should always be due by the due date https://revenue.nswgovaul.click/fines Pay the fine. Or call 1300 655 805. Haven't travelled to NSW in 5 years, web address is dodgy, no dots between nsw and gov and au, has to be a scam and the 1300 number probably gives them access to your phone, PLEASE do not click on anything, another thing, this message came through at 1:41 am which is rediculous and probably when the scammer or call centre is awake (usually India), stay safe everyone

Scam text messages are pretty popular between midnight and 2am it seems, received 2 this morning with the same 1300 number to call. One this morning reads as follows:

I hope you pay the fine as soon as possible. Now use https://service.nswgoval.info/fines
Or call 1300 655 805. Unpaid fines when due will incur enforcement fees

I haven’t lived in NSW for over two decodes, so I’m pretty sure they gave up chasing imaginary fines before now 😂

Received at 2.35am - Text states - I hope you pay the fine as soon as possible. Now use https://service.nswgovaa.info/fines and then the real 1300 state revenue dept phone number. Don't think the govt would hope you pay the fine!
