Caller: No one -this is a number on a Vic Roads SCAM letter

Someone in Victoria received a letter purporting to be from Vic Roads stating:-
that Vic Roads were unable to process your payment.Please call the above number and leave your details including how you paid your car registration.

Letter from vic roads to ring 1300 555 165 re registration didn’t process ,
I treated this letter as possible scam rang vic roads on another number, turns out it’s genuine as I’d paid twice on my 3 monthly (bloody dope) lol

Letter stated 3 days to pay rego, as another person had paid it by accident. Yeah pigs arse. Sure I paid it. Can't access bank statements at the moment to confirm. Called again and said ok I will pay, but thru the online site. She said only phone payments accepted. Looked on vicroads, rego paid. Ok cancel rego, scammer. In lock down so can't go to vicroads office.

This is the telephone number for VicRoads Payment Services Department 1300 555 165.
VicRoads issue letters following up payment issues when they occur.

The other comments on here are laughable and misleading.

The alternate number to call is 13 1171 but if you call this instead you may have to wait in lengthy queues which is why VicRoads provide a dedicated 1300 number for payment matters.

Received a letter purported to be from VicRoads to call the number 1300 555 165 and mention details about the payment receipt number, date and method of payment and the amount paid. A Scam letter.

A VicRoads department, I had paid my rego twice by accident and needed to call this department to reverse one of the charges.

It's sad how sceptical many people have become! This is a genuine number for VicRoads. I accidentally paid for my rego twice, and this is the number to contact their payment team directly to organise a refund. If you get a similar email, check your banking as you've probably done the same thing. Also check the email address that the email came from, it should be from VicRoads - no-reply @ roads.vic.gov.au. You can always call the general VicRoads number but be prepared to wait on hold for a lot longer.

I currently work for VicRoads. This is not a scam number, it is for our Payment Services Team. We will only send this letter our to people who have paid twice.

It is a light number, only when you hit the ready number to call VicRoads, it redirects to the scanner line, the 1300 number is just a front, the diversion hiding behind it, is not, it's just a moneypit number, scaaaaam,

It said my registration did not process. But when I checked my account on the VicRoads webpage it says fully paid. Will have to take this to VicRoads in person and ask them in person.

1300 555 165 is the number for the VicRoads payment services section. If you got a letter with this number, someone made a payment error for the rego number on the letter

Scam. Never pay over the phone. Only use vic roads website.

Yes Scam Letter checked online and is paid, alarming how they have my details though. Business name, Registration number and home address.
The little things started the alarm bells.
- Business name one letter different
- No directors name or signature
- Small formatting spacings looked out of place.
Punched phone number into google and this site came up, thanks to all above for the confirmations.

Caller: a letter from vic roads

I received the same letter from vicroads today. I called vicroads general number and asked about the letter. They confirmed the number is from their accounts team. They did receive a double payment from me for my registration. Money being returned as a result of the call. They did not ask for any bank information and cheque will be returned to my personal address.
