SCAM ! Tried to tell my I owed a paypal debt, I contacted paypal and they confirmed that I DO NOT have or have ever had any debt with them. Reported them to SCAMWATCH.

Letters from ARL re: Paypal account

received letter saying I owe them approx $800 from overdue Paypal account. I checked my Paypal account - zero balance - it deducts $ from my bank account if I use it. Have never been in debt with Paypal account. So I called Paypal, they verified I had a zero balance. Called ARL from phone number on website (not the one on letter which is different!!) and they wanted my details - I refused giving those over the phone to a company that has apparently hasn't been able to contact me. Surely if they were legit they would be happy to send me a detailed breakdown of my supposed debt? She said to contact Paypal to ask them regarding details of the debt. I'm ignoring it... Just received a follow up letter today saying do not ignore. LOL!! HAVE TO BE SCAMMERS SURELY???!!!!

Got a text message from ARL saying - Please contact ARL on 1300 303 849 or reply CALLME (quote Ref %$^U^%) concerning a matter received from PayPal Australia Pty Ltd.
Phoned PayPal and they advised I have no outstanding payments with them and the numbers not connected to the numbers they have.

My daughter has received to letters so far. Saying she owes Ebay, which she doesn't.
Letter look legit with all payment options available. Very well thought out scam.
Don't pay.

Caller: Letter in the Mail

Have received two letters in the mail from ARL saying I owe $2577.60 to PayPal. They got my suburb wrong and they quoted a PayPal account number in the letter. Thing is, PayPal doesn't give you a reference number for your account. My PayPal balance is also $0. The number listed on the ARL website is different to the number listed in their letter. And they ask you to login to lodge a complaint - there's no email address for you to email - they want your details first. All very suss. If they're so legit, come serve me and I'll see you in court MFkers!

THis paypal scam works like this: They will claim you have an overdrawn paypal account, then they will send you an email which is a phising email so you log into it and hand over your login and password details.
Its very easy for these people to target persons with their emails and phone numbers advertised as they can provide this information back to you to sound legitimate.

Received the same text as others on my business phone, twice now. Super dodgy as I have no accounts in the business name except the ABN. And no debts either. Even the phone is prepaid. Not inclined to call them!!

I have received 2 messages from someone saying ARL Collect regarding an insurance matter
The number they asked me to call was 1300 730 156 or reply CALLME
I dont see this number on their website and i think it is a scam
Any ideas thanks

I agree. I have no debts, I have no paypal account. I have had no phonecalls or letters or emails chasing for payment.
Who sends a text message for chasing funds without prior notice. No name given just some code with no reference of what it is for. I agree DODGY or just very bad practice.

Not a scam. I read all of this and then checked my balance, it was in arrears. I had to confirm my login with my phone number through the paypal site and automatically got a message from the same number confirming my phonenumber and saying to add this this number as Paypal

never ring back for money you apparently owe as you would have first been asked by who you owe monies too first... they cant pass you off to any debt collector until they have asked you first and would have to be well past 30days as they would be getting charged from debt collector and no business wants that cost they just want there $ first

I have been receiving texts from this organisation. Been ignoring until today after searching the net & finding conflicting reports of scam/not scam. So I called back & twice after providing the reference number the line went static & then dropped out. I've never had that on a 1300 number... definitely a scam & given it should be a call centre, interestingly the same woman answered the phone both times... number they said to call was 1300 303 849. They answer with 'thank you for calling about your PayPal account' ... um I don't use PayPal losers

As I don’t have my home number registered with paypal it’s dodgy brothers at work here. My paypal account has no messages in the inbox.

I work for NSW Health and began receiving these messages a month or so ago. As I have not associated this number a paypal account and use it for patient contact only I can only assume it's a scam. I have not called "ARL" on the provided 1300 number to reference the so called file number, largely because I suspect will be speaking to a con artist.

If anything changes I will post an update.

I got the same message this morning, its a call centre based in India, i gave her a false DOB, address and email address.
Though she was exact with how much my paypal was overdrawn.
33c ... my file was sent to a debtor for 33cents
