These scammers are still in operation. "Paypal collections". I received a physical letter using this number. Paypal doesn't loan money except via Pay-in-4. I am contacting the *actual* ARL company (whose number is 1300 665 274) to let them know scammers are using their identity. This invoice will then go to the police. Note that the "top comment" here is from the scammers themselves.

Caller: ARL The number they ring from is always from a different mobile number each time. The SIM in my tablet is a data only SIM. Have never used it for anything else only data. Have never rung the number and never likely too as I don't owe any money on PayPal. Scam

Received several voice mails in the early hours of the morning from this number. An Australian voice asking me to call back. I checked my PayPal and nothing wrong there. Also my credit card. Googled this number and found this thread. No Further Action.

PayPal scam. I have never had debts and I had checked my PayPal account prior and it was $0. People here saying it is legitimate have either had a debt when called and fallen for the scam, or are scammers themselves trying to convince you this is legitimate. Don't give them your personal details! They will try to get yours to confirm who they are talking to, which is a trap. I accused him of being a scammer. They haven't bothered to contact me again about this apparent outstanding debt.

Caller: 1300 303 849 ARL is a legit debt collection agency - if you have received an SMS/letter from them stating you owe PayPal just call the number back - first I googled and found a different number 1300 665 274) and straight away thought “dodgy AF” Then I called the 1300 303 849 and spoke with a lovely lady, I was like majority of you, thought it was a scam and ready to give them an ear full!! I only provided her with my name - when she asked for more, I did not give any other details and told her that this is a scam and my PayPal account had no arrears.. To my surprise, she completely understood my reluctance to provide any other details and she explained how easy it is for someone to make a fraudulent account and/or transactions using your details (just like with any online platforms) & she then told me she would remove my number so I stop getting calls/texts & refer the matter back to PayPal to investigate. I was also provided with a reference number & phone number to call PayPal myself and confirm all the info she gave me. I called them and they confirm everything she told me - including that someone had used all my details under a dodgy email address - I was then provided with another “dispute reference number” from PayPal. I called ARL on the 1300 303 849 number again a couple of weeks later to make sure my details had been removed and my credit rating had not be damaged - I had a lovely male this time, again did not have to provide any info other than my name and he told me that PayPal had confirmed this was a fraudulent transaction and the account had been removed. I asked for something in writing (for future reference - just incase) and I received an email from corporate2 @ arlcollect.com.au the following day which included the legit website which provides a legit ABN & ACN and legit people
Yes there are plenty of scammers out there on plenty of platforms but I can 100% guarantee that ARL is legit and yes you may have been scammed but it is not by them - these poor people are just trying to do a job like everyone else.
Anyone wondering why there is a different phone number on the website - I also queried that (& I guess just like majority of companies..?) they have different departments/teams which all have different phone numbers - which in hindsight, isn’t this better than being put on hold and passed around to 5 different people before you find someone who can help?? Coz that is generally what happens most of the time when I call about my utilities or phone bill etc.. Or I am put on hold for ages to speak with someone who doesn’t help..! ARL were far more helpful.. I was not put on hold once & only spent a few minutes getting it sorted out.

Caller: ARL I started receiving text messages in June with the same message each time "Hi (my name), your PayPal account has been referred to ARL for further action and requires your attention. To pay now, please go to https://arlcollect.com.au/customers#login alternatively, call us to discuss on 1300 303 849 and quote ref ######### Thank you"
I contacted PayPal who confirmed I do not owe money on my account and to ignore text messages as it's likely a scam so I blocked the mobile number. A few weeks later the text messages started again so blocked another number. All up, I've received about 10 text messages with the same message above on 4 different mobile numbers. A google search of the company shows a different number on their website which is suspicious too. I decided to call the number on the text message, I only gave them the reference number and the mobile number the messages are being received on. Informed them that PayPal confirmed I do not owe any money and they are to remove my details from their system immediately or I would report them to the ACCC and the police. Silence followed and she tried to tell me it was legit and even asked when I spoke to PayPal. Stated she would forward info to her manager and list my "account" as a possible scam and that she would still need my name. I held firm and refused providing only the reference number and mobile number once more and also reminded again of the ACCC complaint. Here's hoping they now back off. There's no way this is legit and anyone commenting on here that its not a scam is probably in on it

This is definitely a phishing scam. I have reported with ScamWatch and PayPal. Do not give them your personal information, and do not register an account with ARL. I received a snail mail letter from ARL, addressed to my maiden name (which I have not used in 10+ years) saying that my PayPal account is overdue (it's not) and that PayPal have made several attempts to contact me (they haven't). The letter looked legit with no obvious signs of scam, but I know for certain that my PayPal account is not overdue. I rang the number and a woman with a heavy accent asked me to verify my details, which I would not do. She said she would have to terminate the call when I began questioning her. I searched their website and their ABN as well - the website looks professional enough to be a legit debt collector. Their ABN history page shows several business names have been registered over the years.

My wife received a similar SMS and she doesnt have an account with PayPal. Noted that both of our phones are registered in my name as well. SMS said to call 1300 303 849. Being somewhat tech savvy I did a check on ARL Collect's website. Their phone number is 1300 665 274. If you are at all worried I suggest calling the real number to put your mind at ease but as far as I'm concerned this a typical SMS scam of which there are so many these days.
