I received a text saying I owe money from a place I lived 9 years ago (university accommodation). I don't know why I'm been contacted now and they also said I will go on a default registry if I don't pay almost $3000 now(I don't recall ever owning that much rent).

Fraud collection agency requesting payment of a debt to readers digest. They have done this before and I contacted Readers Digest at the time who of course have no record of me. Surely our Telcos can trace this number and arrange to hang the arsehole on the other end.

Caller: Text from 'InCredit' SCAM. Fake debt collection agency who are listed under multiple names and services that have no cohesion or have been deregister as per other's comments about this call line. The 'debt' used against me was for an NBN service I had signed my parents up for when they needed internet at their old home in a rural area. They have since moved, but I had disconnected the service, closed out all accounts and paid off any remaining overlays for the service and even double checked back with them after what would be the next billing cycle to make sure the service no longer existed nor had any bills under my name. I have even since closed out the account the payments came from and switched banks.
All of this done over 4 years ago. Since then, I have ensured all my debts have been payed off and can confirm that I have no payments or debt chasing left on ANY accounts left in my name. These people simply take a long list of telecom accounts free off their system and try their best to hound you for as little or as much money as they can get. They will pressure you and threaten you as much as possible to get what they want. Give them NOTHING.
Below is the text I have been receiving from multiple different numbers now so blocking them does nothing. Hope these scam artists live a miserable life and suffer from the poorest of conditions and health possible:
This is now your Second Notice regarding your MATE COMMUNICATE PTY LTD debt. Act now to avoid escalation. Pay $160.00 to avoid escalation. Bpay Biller# 261263 Ref#7570625 or call 1300 139 590
