Caller: "NRMA Scam" Scam.... email from "NRMA" saying to contact them with financial details for a refund referred this number. This was one of the more clever email scams I've received, but there were obvious tells such as: •Bogus Policy number •Improperly addressed "To policy Holders" instead of account holders actual name •Missing HTML links where the email prompts you to click •Missing Communication history data supplied for senders email address •INSURANCE COMPANIES DO NOT JUST PAY REFUNDS, THEY MAKE IT AS HARD AS POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO GET MONEY OUT OF THEM!!!! Also, for anyone thinking that it's legit from the reviews, noone in their right mind would use so much insurance jargon about how they got their refund on a review for a telephone number.

Caller: NRMA After an internal review, they identified that my policy discount was not applied to my motor insurance and I will receive a refund. Ring the normal number and ask about the email you received. They will confirm it is legitimate.

Caller: SGIC Insurance (by email) . Received email from SGIC South Australia saying I had been overcharged in the past , enter details to claim , or phone 1300 064 698 . Thought it might be a scam so left it for two weeks , then thought ; nothing to lose , so filled in details . Two days later another email from Insurance Australia saying $31.71 had been deposited in my bank . Checked bank next day and it was there .

Caller: SGIC - email Got an email from SGIC (my normal means of correspondence with them so no surprises there) saying there was a refund due for my home/contents insurance policy. Always sceptical I triple checked; it correctly quoted my policy number & the phone number listed in the email is the one on their website for customer refunds. I didn't click any link (of course not) but went to my SGIC account to confirm all this independently. Better safe than sorry, but this one is above board.

I received email from SGIO and all seemed legit, rang the 1300 number and went through all the verification and bank details etc, then thought to double check and found this page with some saying legit and some saying definitely scam etc my heart sunk as I thought I'd been scammed, I rang SGIO direct and told her about it she said straight away it looks like you've got a refund coming to you and I asked her to tell me the number of the renumerations line(I think thats what she called it) and she gave me the 1300 number so yeah I'd say this is legit

I just got off the phone to the NRMA Renumeration department, which was reached on this number. I was uncomfortable giving my personal details, such as full name, date of birth, address and phone number, but when she asked me for the details of my preferred bank again, I asked if she could send a cheque. She said she would send one to the address I provided, without any hesitation.

Caller: 1300 064 698 was referenced in email I received an email from SGIC saying I was entitled to a refund on an SGIC Home policy. Initially I was suspicious, but the email referenced a telephone number and refund page that were on the official SGIC website and the policy number referenced was my actual home policy. Long story short I've received my refund in my current account last week with no problems.

Yes, you're right - it's not the NRMA number.
But it is the NRMA Insurance number, as per the following NRMA Insurance website address: https://www.nrma.com.au/contact-us/phone
The NRMA Roadside Assistance website is mynrma.com.au as per the back of my NRMA members card, and when I click on insurance on that website (mynrma.com.au), it re-directs me to nrma.com.au (NRMA Insurance). So the above link is legit by direct association with it's parent (NRMA).

Caller: Multiple text messages I’ve never held any polices with any insurance companies in NSW or anywhere over east. I’ve been in WA for almost 50 years so I think it was very odd and a scam.

Caller: likely phishing scam text from "NRMA" I'm calling this a scam. If I'm correct there are a lot of deliberately misleading posts here. I have no reason to suspect that any insurance company would be trying to contact me personally for a refund. I have no outstanding issues with any insurance company. Even if I did I would expect the communication to follow the normal communication paths rather than a text. Reading above though, there is no way EVER that I would disclose my full personal details to anyone of the phone. Curiously I have had many other obvious scam texts and phonecalls in the last couple of weeks. straight after I asked forcefully to be removed from a wine distribution marketing list. pretty sure some of these mobs sell your data to the bottom feeders if you opt out.

Caller: Was an email with this phone number to call NRMA are giving refunds on errors happening to Home/Contents policies over the last 7 years. Normally the method for a refund would be to the way it was paid (eg. Bankcard, BPay etc). In this case they only have their system paying to a bank account or via Cheque. You can opt for a cheque if you are really skeptical. This is legit but even I didn't call this 1300 number just in case. Went through the MAIN NRMA number.

The number is for SGIO. Call them and it was legitimate. NRMA acquired the SGIO insurance group some time ago. When I spoke to them the discount related to grouped policies and I was entitled to a refund. Opted to have the refund sent by cheque
