Caller: No name offered Email from Eli Thomas from the Norton Secure customer support team to say my auto-renewal for virus protection on my computer was being actioned. Since I’d switched to another internet security company years previously, I rang back to cancel that subscription. I was then switched to a guy who said he’d refund my $499.00 subscription. He kept me on the line for 45 minute saying that he needed me to put the details of my credit card in the ‘Notes’ app on my mobile phone. I was now wary and gave him a card my partner and I use for shopping and coffees that only had a few dollars credit left. Although he said he could not see the card details in my Notes section, he knew that I’d put in a useless card for his purposes. We had an animated exchange about ‘other’ cards I must have (I said that I didn’t have any other cards) and then it got worse when I asked how he knew the number of the card I’d entered in Notes (obviously they were reading the different tones as I typed numbers). It was quite acrimonious when I hung up. Someone called back, but I did not answer. PS: There had been no withdrawal of $499 from any of my accounts before or after this exchange.

Called claiming to be optus, and was requesting a speed test be done only on my computer.
Then threatened that my internet will be down for 3 days if I can't do as he says due to them diagnosing issues
