calling from the tax office saying Im and going to be dragged through the courts - rang number back out of interest and goes straight to engaged signal - has to be scam

Recorded message claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office. Using a rather authoritative tone. I had just woken up so didn't listen carefully and hung up. I just got the general idea that they were about to say I owed money, but I hung up. One thing I noticed was they did not use my name or address, didn't seem to even know who I was. Also I live in Victoria. If the ATO really wanted to contact me surely the VIC office would ring.

Just had this number call my neighbour who moved from The Congo. My neighbour doesn't speak the best English so he asked me to call back, once I called back they answered saying ATO how can I help to which I said I was my friends neighbour calling back and I was immediately hung up on. - Most certainly a SCAM.

Clearly a scam. Just hang up.

Same here. Googled the reverse look up and found this thread. Obviously a scam.

I received a phone call too saying all of the above. I offered to pay the amount to see what they would say and they said they weren't in the business for asking for money so i don't understand what kind of scam it was????

This is the message I received through message bank: Emily(?) suspect for the case(?) been filed against your name and your house(?) is under(?) surveillance. So do not disregard this message and call me back ASAP on (08) 7078 3642. I repeat it's (08) 7078 3642. Remember delay in calling us back me and then to Legal prosecution for you. Thank you.

This is the second call in 2 days. They left me a message, something about being the 2nd call regarding a warrant of arrest. Unlikely! Yesterday all I heard was a machine buzzing like a fax or modem. Seriously dodgy. Do something good with your talents brother.

Just got a call recorded message saying I was under investigation from the ATO and that I needed to call back on the number and my house was under surveillance

Apparently my house is under surveillance and I am being named in a legal case filed against me .... no name or address given for me, no contact name for the ATO, just a demand to ring the number back immediately.
It was a recorded message, using an authoritative voice, but 'surveillance' was mispronounced.

Received a recorded message saying I was under investigation by Tax Crime Investigation. Phoned the number back, was told that I I had not declared some income and $3585 tax was owing....or something like that. They went on to say, along with other things, the the ATO would send my kids that were under 18 years old to foster care.... not possible....this is a scam.

I got a phone call from this number at 3.23am this morning. Very annoying. :( :(

This number called I answered so Indian man claiming from tax office told him I wasn't interested he got very angry then so I hung up if it's important they will mail me a letter

Left a message saying "Hi I am calling you from the Legal Department of the Australian Taxation Office. We have received an affidavit. Reason for this call is too meet you"....complete scam. ATO does not contact people this way. It would be by letter with government letterhead and verifiable by TFN and document ID no. etc.

This number called twice while away saying i was in trouble with the law. My house under surveillance and if i dont call back the police will be around to get me. Seriously these scams are getting beyond ridiculous.

Call went to voicemail at 9:55am today 10/1/17- a recorded message played as follows: " I am from the Legal Department of the Australian Taxation Office and there is an affidavit against your name. You are listed as a primary suspect in a case being filed against you. Your house is under surveillance. It is important that you call me back on 08 707 83642. Remember, a delay in calling us will result in ...... " (and then the voice mail finished). Reported to ATO - they are aware of this one but still want reported (probably because they keep changing their numbers). Do not call them back and do not discuss anything with them. If you are still concerned if not a scam, please call the ATO directly and not on the number the scammer provided.

Unusual accent, saying ill be dragged through court for tax avoidance, saying I owe $1900 and I must pay or ill be arrested. When I asked why I havent had any letters or correspondance by mail he said they dont do paperwork .

Definately a scam - apparently my house is under Surveilance lol! Put it on speaker-phone for the whole office to laugh along.
