did not answer, went to block the number on my phone and it was already blocked YET THEY WERE ABLE TO CALL ME - very strange

Phone showed this as "Suspected Spam" so didn't answer and blocked number

I had a very rude lady that continually talked over me even with me trying to get her to stop her overly scripted call on behalf of a high-profile charity. So much so I've been in contact with the charity and ceased all communications.

Doubt they are legit if they are asking you to collect for them.
I've heard of charities trying to get you to sell raffle tickets for them.
But I suspect it is ILLEGAL for a charity (or ANY business) to collect for them without due process (vetting you and or providing safeguards, and/or covering any other legal obligations)

Asked me to help with doorknocking for their appeal, I said I couldn't help, but they wouldn't take no for an answer. Ended up hanging up.

I don't live in the 07 area code. I live in NSW. My business is blocking overseas numbers and any number starting with 07 as they are all scum and don't want my business, just my hard earned money. My call blocker blocks all numbers beginning with 028 and 038. Surprisingly I have very little annoying calls now, and it's sheer delight when my phone gives just ONE ring and yet another telescummer gets charged for the call as the blocker loops the line. It's so rewarding.

Apple Marketing Group, making money out of selling charity. It is about time charity telemarketers were taken off the exemption list for the Do Not Call Register. I have no way of knowing who they really are and no time for calls at odd hours. I simply hang up on them - EVERY time.

They ring and don't answer pickup. no message left. must be spammer .
