Have had several alleged spam calls (according to my smart phone) in past week, after leaving my mobile number on HiPages looking for tradies. This number from Queensland is the latest in the surge of unknown phone numbers calling me. l'm on the scam side of this debate as l have no dealings whatsoever with any Suncorp company.

Caller: Suncorp A received a call from a lady and stated call is being recorded. She asked me to identify myself. I said, "You called me so you should know who I am. She claims that my car was on an a side swipe incident and my number plate had been captured. Knowing that my car hadn't been in an accident and there are no scratches, dents or any marks of any kind proves she was lying. She asked me for my insurance details and I said, "I'm not g8ving you any personal details. You call me either the car details tomorrow and prove it was my cat.

I just had four calls from them, one after the other. I do not answer calls from unknown numbers. If it is Suncorp they can leave me a text to tell me to check the insurance part on their app otherwise forget it.

Caller: (07) 3732 2200 I just got a call from a number (07) 3732 2200 who told me he was from Suncorp and wanted to talk about my claim. He asked me to confirm my details and when I said I was uncomfortable with that as I did not know if he was a scam he told me to call him back on 1300 047 836. The information he gave me was not correct. When I tried to call the number back I got a recording advising there was nothing I needed to do. I am confident that this was a scam call.

Said they were from Suncorp Corporation and asked me to verify my name and vehicle registration. I declined and they said they would email myself a dispute although they did not ask for email. Some minutes later a mostly legit email came through with the correct rego but incorrect policy number, names in email and locations. A well presented scam but definitely a scam. Concerning how they how the information.

Caller: Suncorp Insurance Didn't answer the call and got voice mail claiming to be from Suncorp. Called one of Suncorp's website contact number and confirmed they did try to contact me, so it was legit.

Caller: APIA Left a message to call on 1300 052 852 - the number is not connected. Call was from (07) 3732 2200. So I rang the 07 phone number and get a Suncorp message saying not to do anything they'll call back and it hung up. Very strange.

Didn’t answer it as I didn’t recognise the interstate number, and it didn’t go to MessageBank and leave a message. Got an email a few minutes later regarding an existing GIO claim, so was legitimate in my case. Be extremely careful each time though, because it seems as though some calls from this number are definitely not legitimate.

Left a message saying they were from aami about an insurance claim. The person they asked for wasn’t my name and I don’t insure thru aami nor have I been involved in an accident.

Caller: AAMI remediation Missed call but caller left voicemail in which she quoted a AAMI policy number, and stated an email will also be sent. I called the number in the email and rep said I had been overcharged a few years ago and they owed me a few dollars + interest. Seems legit.

Caller: Suncorp Insurance It's a legitimate number for insurance, though they seem to very commonly get the wrong number, thus comments of people with no dealings with the company. Can be safely ignored, or you can give them your first name and tell them they have the wrong number.

Caller: Vero Insurance The caller said it's about a matter and started asking my personal details. I asked her to give me the matter, otherwise I wasn't inclined to give any of my personal details. The caller then said she wasn't allowed to share any info without ID check, so would send an email instead. I will see if any email would land and the call was genuine. That said, this smells fishy as I've got nothing to do with Vero insurance, nor did I know the existence of this insurance brand until just now.
