Caller: APIA I spoke to APIA insurance about my policy, via their contact phone number of 13 50 50.
Shortly after finishing that call, I got a call from (07) 3732 2200. (I didn't answer the call until after checking this site.)
It was the lady from APIA calling me back to clarify something that we had discussed. It was genuinely APIA insurance, as no other person would have had the detail of what we discussed.

People who identified it as AAMI are SO, SO WRONG to have responded. You gave an incoming call your personal details on the basis it had to be AAMI. What you should have done was advise you will call back and ask for a reference. Then checked the AAMI website and rung back. Scammers do get some of your details from other sources and then use this technique to suck you in. It doesn't matter that iif it was a genuine AAMI call, you gave an incoming caller your personal info.

Hm... And you ignore a very important piece of information, putting others at risk. Just because it is a genuine number belonging to Suncorp, doesn't mean you automatically trust the person speaking to you and hand over your info. EVERYONE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THIS... THE PHONE NUMBERS YOU SEE ON YOUR PHONE SCREEN CAN BE FAKED! It's called "caller ID spoofing." Yeah, that's right - the scum can display ANY phone number they like on your phone - even yours, the one they've just called you on, if they want to! Now... is this number one of them? Unlikely, but it is more likely than them faking your cousin's number. So what do you do - how do you know you're talking to who anyone says they are? You HANG UP and then YOU call THEM. (Or hang up and wait for correspondence, because if you owe anyone anything, they will obtain your address from police.) You phone them yourself, because while they can display any number they like on your phone, there is no way they can actually RECEIVE calls made to that number. Your outgoing call will always go to the only genuine owner of that number.

Caller: AAMI Someone pretending to be from AAMI who wanted me to provide all my personal details before they’d talk to me. There’s no way I’d hand over personal details to a random stranger calling me out of the blue.

Caller: (07) 3732 2200 Today I recieved a call from a remediation company stating I had money owing to me about $190. They apparently sent me and email in May. Which when I check my spam folder it was in their. When I found it I clicked on the email and the disappeared from my folders. My Suncorp insurance policy owed me money for over payment and not receiving a multi policy discount. She asked for my bank details, and being suspicious I asked her further questions. She then rattled off a number of cars I have owned and places I have lived. I then asked her to send me an email which tells me to call 1300 041 086.. so still very sceptical about giving my details over. I did search on the internet and saw that a few insurance companies owed people money... so who knows!!!

Caller: Aami THIS NUMBER IS GENUINE. I received a call from (07) 3732 2200 claiming to be AAMI insurance, stating that I was over charged for a ctp policy in 2019. The vehicle which it concerned wasn’t in my possession since 2019 after an accident with totaled the vehicle. The person wanted my bank details to deposit a refund. So being a coms tech and knowing scammers use spoofing numbers of legitimate businesses to make the call look genuine I said no to the back details, the person said she understood my concerns and said please hang up and call AAMI back and go through the process of id and they will reconnect you to this section. So I rang AAMI and told them I had a phone call Etc etc. and they connected me to the dept. the same details were repeated to me as before from previous call. So the number and the call is genuine. The first caller didn’t give me a phone number to ring, and I wasn’t going to use the number on caller id, so if you are concerned, hang up and use the number out of the phone book or a number you have for them that you know is genuine and call them back to confirm.

Caller: Suncorp / AAMI / GIO Legit call. GIO called to discuss a computer glitch where a multi policy discount hadn't been applied to my latest policy. The call was followed by a detailed email. Problem solved.
