I've received half a dozen calls in the last two months from this number (AAMI). Every time they are after an 'asian woman's name' and don't seem to comprehend that I, an Australian male with an very English sounding name, am not this woman!
There are many comments here that the callers are claiming to be from different companies; JustCar, GIO, AAMI etc. A wikipedia search shows that these are all part of Suncorp:
"Suncorp is the parent company of insurance company GIO, which is mainly used as a general insurance company representing Suncorp outside Queensland, offering similar products to the Suncorp branded insurance product in Queensland. Suncorp also owns the AAMI, Apia, Just Car Insurance, Shannons, InsureMyRide, Vero, Terri Scheer, Bingle, CIL, Asteron and Tyndall insurance brands in Australia, and Vero, Asteron, Guardian Trust, Tyndall, Vero Liability, AA Insurance, SIS, CMV/AXIOM"
Apparently AAMI have also confirmed that the number is legit. So it's less of a scam and much more of incompetence I'd say

Just got a call me this number. The lady had a foreign accent, not sure from where. Told me she was calling from AAMI and told me the call would be recorded, no options given. She then said that she needed to ask me some person information which I relied that I would not give to someone cold calling me. I do have a recent claim with AAMI but have been corresponding with emails. Told her to email me with the email address that they have on their system. Did not like the nature of the call one bit, sounded very suspicious.

Supposedly from Shannons about my "incident". They couldnt supply any details of the incident and wanted to "clarify" some of my details. I call it a scam , had several calls from this number with the same story. Unsure how they got my details from Shannons, its obviously someoone who has inside information on insurance claims, perhaps from a repairer. It shouldnt be too difficult for authorities to track them down.

Indian claimed to be from Shannons and wanted information about a recent "incident" They couldn't provide me any details about the "incident" so I politely got rid of them. They said they were calling from India.

Legit. It's AAMI and probably relates to a claim against you by another party.

Said they were from AAMI about an accident of a car which I've already sold several months ago. They asked my details which I didn't give They now seem to be calling on another number (07) 5475 4542 saying from GIO now How do I verify if it's real. They said they can't access RMS to find new owner because of security

Caller: Pretend to be Suncorp Scam. Woman with Indian accent (good line however). Pretended to be from Suncorp and wanted to talk to my husband (knew his name). When I said he wasn't there she said she would proceed with me and asked for my date of birth which I refused to give her since she was the caller. She said, fine we'll send you and email. Clearly dodgy caller.

Part of AAMI insurance for a claim made, not a scam. when you call back it is a pre recorded message to say they will call you back again.

Caller: female caller with accent said she was from Suncorp and quoted my insurance policy no. I had only lodged a claim with Suncorp day before. She then said she needed to clarify some personal details. I asked her the purpose of the call and she said she could not tell me that. So I let her know that I wouldn't be giving her any information unless she told me why she was ringing. She then ended the call. It sounds dodgy to me and Im going to ring Suncorp now to find out how this person has my insurance policy no.
