I received the following reply from Suncorp, after I emailed them about it:
------------ Calls from this number could come from any business within the Suncorp Group; such as Suncorp Bank, AAMI, GIO, APIA, Vero or Asteron Life to name a few.
If you have any accounts or policies held with any business within the Group, you could call that business directly and they can determine who was trying to reach you.
Alternatively, please respond to this message with the phone number you’re receiving these calls on and I’ll attempt to have these calls stopped in the future.
------------
I've contacted AAMI and asked them to remove my number (only one of the companies in the list that I've ever dealt with), we'll see how that goes.

The number called me today and it turns out to be AAMI call center. I have with AAMI my car insurance. The accent is at least nice-:)

This number has been calling me about 3-4 times per day for about two weeks. drives me insane. I run a very busy business and if you can't leave a message to tell me why you're calling, then don't call me.

My phone alerts when it's suspected spam and suggested it was telemarketing. I don't answer the phone unless I know the phone number and if it's urgent or important they will leave a message. My question is...does the Do Not Call Register mean anything these day?? This is what I'm finding more annoying that I'm registered on there but seem to be getting more and more calls of these calls and I shouldn't be.

I received a call from this number to advise me that my house insurance with SUNCORP had not been paid on time ----- it was a friendly reminder ------ they obviously can't leave a message as they would be breaking privacy laws.

They seem to call whenever I enter a competition online and then have to go through 3 pages of extra offers! I always say no to the extra offers, but they still ring up saying "You had an online enquiry about insurance" Noooooooooooooooooooooo! BLOCKED

About a week ago I got life insurance from GIO and I already have Car insurance with them also. Like everyone else in this discussion, I never get a message left by the caller. On calling the number GIO is one of the insurers on the automated voice message advising that that there is no action required on your part and if they need to call back they will.
Although I can't be sure, most of these random 07 numbers I get calls from are call centres in India trying to sell me something else so I don't answer anything from an 07 number any more. The silence someone mentioned earlier at the beginning of the call seems to be the delay in connecting the call to the overseas call centre and is a good indication when to hang up. If it's silent for a few seconds after you say "hello" there's a pretty good chance it's an overseas sales call.
Not sure why these insurance giants are ok with being linked to a very un-professional activity in calling someone over and over again and not leaving a message, but I will be having a word to GIO none-the-less.
Another thing you can try is if you have an online account for your insurer log in and look for "Marketing preferences" and make sure you have opted out for marketing and special offers. Ironically, I just logged into GIO and every link in my profile works EXCEPT "Marketing Preferences" which throws an error: "We were unable to process your request. Please come back and try again later"
WHAT A SURPRISE!!! :)
