just received a similar call, I called the number back and asked what it was all about- apparently its a govt audit, it sound legit but I am still a bit suspicious, normally something like this is preceeded by a letter to the household

Called regarding free federal govt energy audit. Seems Legit (perhaps Brisbane Energy Audits who do this free and are paid for by Fedreal govt. Didn't say company name, just that it was federal govt. Sounded like a call centre. Only spoke to Indian sounding people on the phone, was given this number to call them back if I couldn't make my appointment (they coma and audit your home).

I received the same type of call - my phone said it was an overseas number but the brisbane number was the return call number they gave out. I was suspicious because the call seemed unprofessional and not clear about who they were.  SO I called the Home Sustainability Assessment hotline on 1800 895 076 and verified that the free home audits is a valid scheme. However, the assessors are not allowed to cold call - so unless you have given them your number and asked for them to contact you they are doing the wrong thing. I figured they should be reported for that but the person working for the government hotline was remarkably disinterested. Still I am going to pursue it when I find out who is doing my assessment. I can only assume that someone who is getting their assessment bookings through cold calling is not a committed professional in the sustainability industry and wont do the best job!
