These numbers are issued by the Australian Govt for film and television use and are frequently used/spoofed by scammers.

This scum bag tried to open a Paypal account using my teenage son's identity and in the details of the Paypal account was this mobile number.

They also use that number as a contact number for someone trying to scam a grass roots soccer club by impersonating the president to get the treasurer to pay a bill for a website upgrade. The created a complete false tax invoice too. Used the company name Babi Akili and Co. and Commonwealth Bank Account details under the same name. Invoice address was the Com Bank Building in Sydney.

No phone call, but sent an email to me about a vehicle I am selling. Discovered that the enquirer is a fraud. The person went under the name of Tom Wagner. Time waster.

Called me at work 10.am and when I was driving. 2 missed calls and I tried to ring back its a disconnected number. The psycho called back 9.36. I blocked and reported it to scam website. Mr Psycho if you are reading this, your IME number on your phone is traced by the police. So stop harrassing all of us

Numbers like this one are why I don’t answer unknown numbers. I figure if it’s important, they’ll leave a message. If they don’t, I always check online and if the number comes up on a site like this, it’s block ahoy!

I only use my phone for personal but it’d be hard not to answer your phone if you use it for business, etc. But I’d definitely recommend not to call these numbers back until doing a search first.

Unfortunately the majority of these calls don’t even originate in Australia as most people know (they don’t follow do not call registry rules). But what’s worse is in some cases they aren’t even calling from the number that shows up (that’s why it usually is disconnected if you do call it back). There’s services out there where you can fake a number that displays on caller id and you don’t even have to verify you own the number. I’m sure these scam calls use such a service so no one can find out where they’re calling from. By what people have commented about this number, definitely seems like this would be one of them.
