This is a genuine number from the Commonwealth Bank, likely linked to their online SMS set up (which is why you can't call it back).

Definitely NOT the Commonwealth... I don't and have never had a Comm bank account...

Got a text saying my phone has been updated and need to call 132221 immediately. I think it’s a scam and they make the text look legit by providing real commbank number hoping you would call the same number back.

" We wrote to you on 26 April 2024, however, we have not yet received this information and/or documentation. If you have recently responded to our earlier request"

I just received exactly the same text. Rang the 132221 number which is the Commonwealth Bank and the recorded message says it is a scam and to do nothing, just hang up.

I found the above user comments confusing and really query CBA responses as shown. There are never any messages in my inbox so this is just a lure to get me to ring that number or try texting it ?? Maybe just to soften me up for a phone call purporting to be someone from CBA. Whatever CEO of CBA can repay his bonus as this is a failed customer satisfaction KPI and as for going to a branch to check, I wonder where that would be.

CommBank Scam. Never been with CommBank yet i got this.

It's a BS message and definitely a scam. They presumably want you to ring the mobile and they then try to get you to part with your bank details.

Received test message telling me to log into my Commonwealth Bank Net bank. I am not a customer of this bank, never ever have been.. Commonwealth Bank does not send text messages to login.

I went online to find if the number was legit as I didn't think I had an account. Their webpage had a customer service number for people who don't have a card (as I didn't think I had an account). The number I rang straight up said you may have gotten an SMS as they've changed their terms and conditions on money limits. It seems legit. My guess is that even though I don't have an account that my son did when Comm Bank was allowed to do School Banking accounts. Naughty bank, no more school accounts for you!

This IS a valid SMS Mobile Number for the Commonwealth Bank, I just received a valid SMS notification from them originated from this mobile number advising me that I had a new message waiting for me in my Inbox and sure enough when I logged into their website and checked my Inbox there was, a new message for me waiting in there for me to read it.
So, if you are a CommBank customer and you get one of these SMS messages appear on your phone, then log on to your account to check out what the SMS message is telling you, BUT, **ONLY LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT** BY GOING STRAIGHT TO THE CommBank website, YOURSELF, and logging into it from there. NEVER EVER, EVER, **EVER** Click upon ANY LINK contained in ANY SMS message that arrives on your mobile phone..!!!
It is VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ALWAYS, ALWAYS, **ALWAYS** GO STRAIGHT TO the Company's own website, and login to your Account DIRECTLY, on their website, BECAUSE, Scammers CAN, EASILY IMITATE, ANY Company's real, Phone Number, by the use of specialized Phone Number 'SPOOFING Software' when they are targeting YOU, in their attempts to defraud you of your money, or, steal your personal identity information...!!!
NEVER, EVER, EVER, **EVER** BELIEVE, **ANYTHING** the **ANYONE** TELLS YOU, if you receive an unexpected phone call, out of the blue, WITHOUT YOU PERSONALLY, **VERIFYING** that the person you are then speaking to IS ACTUALLY WHO, THEY SAY THEY ARE...!!!
HOW, can YOU, DO THAT...??
SIMPLE, just ask them, for their full name, and their Company Employee Number and tell them that you, will then call them straight back, by YOU phoning their Company and asking to be connected to them, by quoting their Company's Employee identifying information that they have just given to you...!!!
IF THEY THEN REFUSE, to provide you with their own Company Employee identification number, so that you can then VERIFY that they are a LEGITIMATE EMPLOYEE of the Company they are telling you that they represent, THEN HANG UP IMMEDIATELY, AND BLOCK, THEIR NUMBER, BEFORE THEN REPORTING WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO THE REAL, COMPANY INVOLVED, by phoning their publicly listed main telephone switchboard number available in the White Pages Telephone Directory, or online, via their Company website's "Contact Us" webpage.
WHY, do this..?? Because IF, the SCAMMER, who just called you, was 'SPOOFING' one of the Company's LEGITIMATE phone numbers, then you can easily check that, by contacting and confirming with the Company, IF the number the SCAMMER used, a REAL Company number, and if so, then you can then UNBLOCK it on your own phone, so that you can remain contactable by the Company in the future, if THEY, need to call you about anything to do with your own Account with them.
BUT ALWAYS, **ALWAYS** BE VERY, SUSPICIOUS, about the Legitimacy, of ANYONE, who cold-calls YOU, unexpectedly, AND ALWAYS, **CHECK** **THEIR** Credentials ARE **TRULY** LEGITIMATE, by using the Verification process that I have just described above, to CONFIRM, **THEIR** IDENTITY, ***FIRST***...!!!
If they wont agree to your LEGITIMATE request to PROVE THEIR IDENTITY, FIRST, or, if they hang up on you, then be thankful, that you just ..DODGED A BULLET...!!!!!

I get texts from this number when I lock my cards in the Commonwealth Bank app. telling me that I locked my card or that it is still locked.

This is not a scam. It is from CBA. I got a message when mobile number is changed.

Said they were Australian cyber security and not to tell my bank that I had spoken to them. Have since received 50+ phone calls from him in the last 2 days all from different mobile numbers. Definitely a scam.
I have a CBA account too so this has been a very unhelpful list of comments.
