Also received a txt about accident insurance claim

I have found a number of some .gov that asks for spam texts to be forwarded to them:

I receive these messages every week. definately a scam. never respond to these messages as they would use your details for further scams and possibly send you a link that would hack your phone and online accounts.

I've received this same message supposedly from 0427 741 863

When I called the number, I got a recording saying the number was disconnected. When I asked Optus customer service if this was possible, the consultant on the phone claimed that it's possible for a number to bar incoming calls so that we may receive a "call disconnected" recording if we try to ring it.

So, since there's no easy way to block these SMS's and Optus can't do anything about it (they told me to report it to police! What are police going to do about a couple of SMS's?!) I am replying with "CLAIM" to see what comes out of the woodwork!

Standby folks... (no response so far after about 3 minutes - perhaps it's not an automated responder if indeed it works at all)

Interesting. I've received it multiple times from 0427 741 863. I replied with "Who are you?" a couple of times with no response.

Then I just tried phoning back and hear a recording saying the number is disconnected! (That was shortly after receiving the SMS)

So it seems you can spoof reply numbers on SMS?

The number I got it from was listed as 61 427 741 861

Now they are using another number 0448 848 194 same message about being involved in an accident in the last 2.5 years

Just received the same text message from 0448 848 194. When I rang the number I got the message, this number is turned off or not in a mobile area. I wonder what the scam is. I am not replying via my mobile!!

How do you block messages and calls to your phone?

Got same message just now, sent from 0448 848 194

Total scam tried calling number (not from my mobile of course) and it was turned off. While I have been in a accident I doubt I could claim compo (unless the kangaroo I hit was rich)
