Caller: Paypal This is the Paypal SMS number. If you send money to a friend using Paypal directly or pay for something using Paypal directly then a SMS comes to your phone saying you sent x-dollars to x-person. Pay attention to your **actual** activities people. If you sent money via paypal then everything is fine. If you DIDN'T send money then someone is trying to scam you using the same phone number. A little bit of common sense and thinking goes a long way....

PayPal number has been duplicated to be used for scam Using phishing link like this one sent to me so don’t click the link. PayPal: You've got a new payment request. Pay at https://py.pl/55LlVUvc2yE 森中崇允 has requested $13.00 USD.

Caller: 0458 729 725 Received a barrage of SMS messages from this number, literally one after the other, giving Paypal 'Security codes' that would expire within ten minutes. I immediately contacted Paypal, and they said it is a scam. If you try to call the number, you get a polite message saying that it's disconnected.

Caller: This is PayPal!!! all others lie this is NOT SPAM!!!! this is a message from Paypal aimed at protecting you - it states what you just transferred from your account - if it's not you, the two steps verification will save you a lot of money! the Hackers wants you to ignore this, but this is a very important text aimed at updating you on money transferred from your account - be alert to this one.

I received a message on my phone that I needed to pay $10 to someone I knew about. I paid the $10 via my IPad and my standard PayPal website. Then, 10 minutes later, I clicked the phone SMS message, It said “this has already been paid”. If it was a scam site it would have attempted to collect twice.

It's now February 2020 and I received an SMS from this number. Looks like it's back in action. The message read as follows:
--- PayPal Fraud Alert: Are you trying to pay $0.00 AUD? If yes, reply 1. If no, reply 2. Msg & Data rates apply. ---
It's is definetly a scam. Paypal would not manage security via SMS, they notify via email and then manage via their secure site. DO NOT REPLY!!! If you do, you'll be marked as an active phone number and one that will reply to unknown numbers. They may also have extreme charges applied to replying to the message.
If your phone allows it, please mark it as spam when you are prompted (Android phones do this, i'm not sure about iphones). Google will receive enough notifications from users and it will then be marked for all Australian users as a spam message.

Caller: 0458 729 725 Just received a message stating [PayPal] Did you pay $xxxxAUD to xxxxx (seller's name) on 13 January 2020? Reply 1 if yes or 2 if no. [Reply Needed]. I received the text soon after buying a product on ebay through PayPal. Called 1-800-073-263 and they confirmed it was Paypal who sent it. It is their way of verifying and alerting you that a purchase has been made, particularly if it has been a long time since you have used PayPal/it is a large sum/or if it is your first purchase with PayPal. It is a secure number, if you're ever unsure just call up before responding to emails/texts to confirm.

Caller: PayPal Text I received a text claiming to be from PayPal, to confirm my mobile number. I was suspicious BUT I went online, through the PayPal website, to confirm my number and received a code to use. PayPal also had a record of the purchase I made a split second before I got the text. Seems legit.
Credit card companies, apple and even facebook use mobile phone numbers for security purposes.

Well, now I don't know what to think after reading through here. I got a "[PayPal] Did you pay" message at 15:06, about 2 minutes after I *did* pay. I replied 1 for yes. Then exactly an hour later at 16:06, I got a second identical one. I'm now blocking the number.

Caller: PayPal This is genuinely PayPal's number. I get messages from it whenever someone sends me a payment via PayPal and the message includes their full name and the exact amount being sent. It wouldn't be possible for anyone other than PayPal to have this information.
The text is sent to me literally when the person has just organised the payment to me.
