Caller: Claiming to be from the Commonwealth Bank Using the name of a current Manager in Commbank caller attempted to convince me that they had detected a suspicious transaction for $800 originating in NZ. Wanted to know if I banked using phone or internet. Suspicions raised. I asked to be put through to my local branch to discuss - and due to time taken clearly they were wording up someone to talk to me. Person who took the call then tried to convince me he had been working at that branch for 3 years (which is bullsh*t because I know everyone at the branch) and when I asked to speak to a specific person at the branch, claimed he had only just been transferred to that "section" last week and didn't know the person. Not bad for a country branch of 10 staff. All persons spoke with strong Indian/Indonesian accents. When I asked about another person I knew at the branch, they hung up. I contacted my local branch direct, and confirmed this was not a Commbank call.
I tried to call the mobile number back but got a recorded message saying the number has calling restrictions.
I suspect my personal Commbank details have been compromised somewhere - though not suggesting it is a Commbank failure - there is a leak somewhere. At least in my case.
