This is not a scam. It is part of Westpac's 2-stage verification of payment requests. I log into my account, tell Westpac to make a certain payment. Within a minute or two I receive an SMS from this phone number number which shows a six-digit (I think) code. I then type this code into the payment transaction that is not yet complete. Once this code has been verified by Westpac's computer, the transaction becomes authorised and is implemented. Quite a secure system - a hacker would have to have hacked into my account, and also stolen my mobile, to complete the transaction.

It is definitely a scam even 6 years later they are still using the same phony mobile number. They rang me on my unlisted number which the bank has no knowledge of so whoever reckons it is not a scam go ahead and lose your money

has anyone thought of calling Westpac.!? I have received many verification codes over the years, and I'm a foundation customer, the code always arrive within a minute of the involved transaction being action-ed to allow you to 1. verify that it is you 2. for the transaction to continue to finality. One would have thought that Reverse Australia with so many calls concerning a Bank that THEY would get to the bottom of it. Or perhaps is Reverse Australia simply just an automated Computer

Caller: Westpac SMS Protect Genuinely Westpac's SMS Protect mobile number used to send codes to Westpac customers as a form of 2 Factor Authentication (2FA). Where people may be getting confused; • If you receive this but don't bank with Westpac, it's possible you're using a recycled number from a Westpac customer • A Westpac customer has mistakenly given Westpac their incorrect number • Westpac's number may have been spoofed, so be diligent. Do not click on any Hyperlink within the SMS, including those highlighted, (blue characters etc) even if it appears to be Westpac's correct phone numbers. Call any contact numbers independently, by dialling the CORRECT number. There is no reason to click on anything in these SMS's. • I can't ensure that even if you don't click on anything within these SMS's, that they haven't already caused malicious damage. I haven't quite identified that, in my long suffering journey to escape the clasps of an insidious, incessive sophisticated hit on my cyber security.

If you receive this but dont bank with westpac chances are you may have a recycled number that is on someones westpac file but out of date or when setting up their account they accidently miskeyed their mobile number or accidently gave the wrong number the phone number at the bottom is what you should ring if you receive this text by error and if you google it, it is a genuine westpac phone number

“If you go onto the Westpac app and look in their Security Section / SMS code and token you will see that they reference the 1300 655 505 number to call. It is a legit text message. Other than that, look up their phone number and ring them to confirm, “

Caller: Westpac Received this call three times in accompaniment to SMS verification codes that took too long to arrive, causing me to re-request a code. Indeed, never share your SMS codes, good to see there was no CVC number included in the details.
