Received a text message from this unknown number. After I read the message it was an emergency alert of a missing man. The location mentioned in the text message is within my residential area. With the information provided to me made me aware of the man's description and if sighted I could inform the appropriate authorities.

They do contact you often. They keep sending the same message every 10 minutes for last 45 minutes. Bit much I think.

Dont recognize the number. Have received similar message twice now. I ignored & promptly deleted it!

sending alerts two days in a row to a Tasmanian in Tasmania about a missing person in NSW is a bit ridiculous, Not sure how many messages all up I've had from this number but NONE of them have been relevant to my location, they have ALL been about something happening in another state. The first one was a real worry, it was about an evacuation order due to fire, yet at the time there were no fires burning out of control in Tasmania..
Sending pointless emergency messages to those that do not need them is a great way to teach people to ignore such messages, has no-one heard the story about the boy that cried wolf?

It’s a scam! They imitate news and send it to you with a link. When you check the news it’s there and police will tell which or what numbers to contact and definitely not this number!

2 - go to local police website
3 - search for recent updates
4 - find exact match for text message
5 - understand that this is, in fact, the emergency broadcast number as others have said
6 - comprehend how many idiots there are thinking it HAS to be a scam.....

Seriously, if you get a number, look at your local police web page for further details. You could save somebody's life.
