It would take a very smart scammer to match up my credit card number (last 4 digits) with my mobile phone number. I called Westpac and it was a genuine message about fraudulent activity on my credit card.

This definitely was a message from Westpac, I received 2 in a week. I thought the text message was a scan but rang St George Bank and told me they blocked my card because the site I was on there was a problem but I was paying a bill through paypal. Then yesterday received another text this time Monday night I withdraw money from Westpac ATM and there was a scammer device on it and got me details.
So if you do receive a text ring your bank immediately and organise new card.

Yeah guys its not a scam. I sent a reply text with a bit of abuse and actually got a phone call back almost immediately on a Sunday night.. It was super suspicious and the person refused to give up any information about themselves other than their first name.
They did however say on the phone call that I should dial the number on the back of my bank card, which I thought was a weird thing for a scammer to tell me to do ... I did that.. I actually did have a block on my account..
I feel so bad for abusing this person who called me from the fraud prevention team because I read all these comments who say it's a scam.
Guys, it's legit. Just call your bank..
(btw st george are owned by westpac)

Legitimate text (but don't let that stop you from calling the bank). An apparent fraudulent transaction attempt and the text itself originated from Westpac. Wife called them and they are going to issue new cards. Not sure why a credit card transaction would be honoured without the CVV. As with other replies, don't be lazy, don't trust texts, call the bank and sort it out!

Early this morning, I rec'd a text from this number mentioned that my card had some fraud transactions. Tks for that, BUT WHY ASKING ME TO REPLY as it will be very critical to rely a number that you never heard of????????? So I call up Westpac Credit Card to identify this, and it is genuine. If nowadays, so many tricks and frauds, why the team wants me to state whether the transactions are suspicious by sending back a "YES" OR "NO" to a mobile number that I do not know. Sorry this is NOT A SAFE WAY TO DO IT.

this number is the number from the westpac fraud management. It is fully real and definitely needs to be taken seriously. If you had the mind to google this, call the westpac team as soon as possible. The number is real but I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to fall for that. westpac really should put a better name on their fraud management tho. I thought that the SMS was a fraud at first since it was a mobile number

This ended up being a legitimate call. However, it is better to call your bank directly through their own phone number.
My bank blocked the transaction, but I could have lost money if i didn't follow up. Be careful.

Received following message:- Westpac alert: Block placed on card ending XXXX for suspicious transaction at 'Eham.net' for $0.00 at 8.18. If Genuine, reply 'Yes'. If Fraud reply "No'.
Rang Westpac and it was genuine - new card is on its way

Not a scam. Text was from Bank of Melbourne. I then received a call from St George Bank within 2 minutes of the text. The lady went through past transactions to verify they were legitimate and through today's fraudulent transactions. Extremely helpful, but unfortunately cancelled my card and will have to wait another few days (plus the Easter holidays) to get new card. Second time my card has been hacked in 12 months. I think I'll stop using Tap and Go, and be careful where I keep my wallet when out shopping. I've been using a protective card envelope for 12 months so cannot be sure how it's happened this second time. BTW the first fraud events took $10k and all was refunded ... luckily this one was a single online purchase of a few dollars that got through and all the rest (was not told how many) were declined by the bank.

Definitely not a scam. Rang Westpac to confirm the text and it had come from them and saved me paying $1727.22 from a dodgy transaction in America. Great work Westpac.

St George really do not help in this matter as they own Bank of Melbourne and are themselves owned by Westpac. I have received messages from Bank of Melbourne and Westpac in the past and have had to check with St George to clarify if legitimate which they were. Just be aware that St George Bank, Bank of Melbourne and Bank SA are all a part of Westpac.

Received a txt from this number about a transaction on my eft card. I bank with the bank of Melbourne- which is st George bank in all other states and owned by westpac. They confirmed the txt is legitimate and gave me the number of the fraud department. This txt is legitimate reply and call the bank to confirm your card is cancelled and a new one will be issued. The staff were very helpful 😊

Having had people try to scam me before, I was wary when I received this SMS. HOWEVER this is NOT a scam. I called St George (associated with WestPac) and they verified somebody had tried to use my card in a nearby suburb. Definitely worth calling them back!!
