Caller: The Bank: Westpac/St George/Bank SA Someone attempted to use my card in the US. After looking here and at another site - because yeah, it looked dodgy - I called the bank via a number that I know to be correct. My Visa card number had been stolen and was attempting to be used at Walmart.com. The bank blocked that and any further transactions from that Visa card number. I will receive a new card next week.
Note that if it was "skimmed", then the bank refuses to accept that and is attempting to claim that it is my fault for using dodgy websites online - something I do not do. And I have not made any online purchases for a year.

Caller: Westpac Notification This was a notification to confirm a transaction I had just completed for software on a secure site. It identified the vendor, the amount and card by the last 4 digits. I no action required by me if genuine. If it had been fraud I had to reply "Fraud" nothing else.

Caller: Bank It’s not a scam. The bank texted that blocked my card after someone tried to use the number in another state. I checked my account online before taking the call. They didn’t ask for any personal details just told me they’d send a new card in 5-7 days.

Caller: Westpac Not a scam. I received an SMS apparently from Westpac saying my card had been blocked because of a suspicious transaction. I checked my credit card transactions and there was an item for $499 which is fraudulent. I telephoned Westpac on the number on their website and they confirmed that the card had been blocked and had now been cancelled and a new card would be issued. If you receive a similar message from Westpac you should call them immediately.

Caller: Bank Of Melbourne/Westpac This is legit. If it is a text, your credit cards are in the process of being hacked, so follow text instructions to block. You don't have to reply to the follow up caller, but quickly get in contact with the bank.

Not a scam. I got a text message asking for confirmation whether or not a suspicious transaction was fraud. I saw the transaction on my internet banking called back St George on the number on my credit card. Best to call them up directly.

Looks a bit dodgy, but was real:
Message from Westpac with time and amount of a transaction I didn't recognise, and asked me to reply "Fraud" if I didn't recognise it. I did see the transaction online. I replied "Fraud" to the message, and got a message back the day after, saying that they blocked my card and would call me within 20 minutes. They didn't call me within 2h though. :P In the end I called them and (after the usual phone queues) got it all sorted out and everything refunded.
So as others said, best to verify yourself and call them directly, so that you know that you are actually dealing with your bank.

I got a message from this number with a Westpac alert saying a transaction had been blocked. I thought it was strange, an alert coming from a mobile number... But I called Westpac and my card had been blocked because a bunch of transactions had been attempted overseas.

It’s a genuine text from Westpac about Suspicisous transactions on my credit card. I immediately checked my online statement and someone was running up Uber charges right at that time in the USA. I then replied fraud and that triggers your card to be temporarily blocked. Check you statement first to confirm fraudulent activity and would definitely recommend replying. This was all at 2.18am in morning so cannot ring bank and if ignored would allow more transactions until banks open at 9am

Westpac owns St George. They're usually linked. If you have an account with one you get stuff from both.

This is definitely genuine and not a scam. I received a message like this from Westpac and I called back and gave all my personal details to assist in resolving the matter. Within a week my hair had grown 5 inches, I could bench 240 for 10 reps and I could play the violin! Within a month I was chairman of the Scottish Water Board, and had collected 1307 bags of Cheetos. Thank you St George for looking out for me.
