Caller: Scammer If you get a text from this number, unfortunately your credit card details have definitely been compromised. Please call your bank directly because the text message is linked to a scam number. They will pretend to be the bank if you text the number or call them back.

Caller: Westpac Fraud Detection Unit I have been able to confirm that this number is Actually Westpac warning of a suspicious transaction. They SMS's several messages to my brother and he dismissed them as a scam until he checked his westpac app and discovered an $884 purchase on his credit card. After contacting Westpac (with their witepages phone number) and getting transferred to theoir fraud unit they confirmed that around 30 transactions were attempted but only 1 for $884 got through (the status was pending at that time). They have started an investigation and will probably refund him in around 2-3 weeks.
DO NOT IGNORE SMS's FROM THIS NUMBER. IMMEDIATELY Contact Westpac with their number from the whitepages. Failing to do so may end up costing you a lot of money.

Caller: Westpac Not a scam. A text detailing a suspicious transaction to which westpac temporarily blocked my card. I also received an app notification from westpac of the fraudulent transaction and called their number through the app. There was no link that was included in the body of the text so I checked my banking account to make sure it wasn’t a scam. It was a genuine message from Westpac

Caller: Text message from Scammers. Don’t reply to any messages.from this number. They ARE Scammers. Believe it but CALL directly to your bank and check. The text quoted the amount debited on the credit card to suck you in. I checked and they were correct but after talking to the bank they are scammers. 😡

Why if a Bank needs to contact you don't they send you a letter the old way. In this they can give you a contact number to phone or for you to organise a meeting. I am sick to death of all the unwanted phone calls and text messages from people unknown. Thank you Maria

Caller: Westpac Contacted Bank fraud department, who verified this DID COME FROM THEM. Card has been cancelled and re-issued. Treat this one seriously folks, but call your bank, don't reply.
"Westpac Alert: Card ending in xxxx has been temporarily blocked due to an attempted transaction at '(telecoms company)' for $xxxx.xx at 2:36. If you recognise the transaction, reply 'Yes' to have your card unblocked. Otherwise, reply 'No' to have a Westpac agent contact you."

Caller: 0429 933 739 Can confirm this is a genuine number used to send messages from Australian Banks.
Recieved TWO (2) SMS's back to back today.
SMS #1 = "Bank of Melbourne Notification: Card ending in XXXX has a transaction at 'XYZ.COM/BILL' for $XXX.99 at 14:18. If you do not recognise this, reply 'No' to have a Bank of Melbourne agent contact you. No response is required if you recognise the transaction."
SMS #2 = "Bank of Melbourne Alert: Card ending in XXX has been temporarily blocked due to an attempted transaction at 'XYZ.COM/BILL' for $XXX.99 at 14:21. If you recognise the transaction, reply 'Yes' to have your card unblocked. Otherwise, reply 'No' to have a Bank of Melbourne agent contact you."
I did not respond to the SMS. Called BoM immediatly and they confirmed that four (4) consecutive transactions (in the hundreds) had been made. Checked online banking and could see the four (4) transactions as shared in the SMS messages. Appears these bastards have got my physical bank card number.
I agree with others advice on this thread. If you do receive this message. Do not ignore it. Call YOUR bank immediately.

Caller: 0429 933 739 NOT A SCAM! CALL THE BANK DIRECTLY!! Received the same text as everyone else. Text looks like a scam which is really poor on the banks end. I called the bank and sure enough there was fraudulent transactions that they luckily blocked. Card cancelled and new one on the way. Then I replied to the text ‘no’ (the prompt to say it wasn’t a legit transaction) and the fraud team called 5 minutes later.

Caller: St George Got TEXT. Staying possible fraud. Asked if I know this transaction I replied No. Message came back card is on hold...I looked into my app and the card states suspended. 30mins later a call came through and DID not ask me for my details as I wouldn't give them anyway if THEY are calling me. Man stated do you know this transaction..I said no...he asked if it's subscription possibly? No.. We have cancelled the card just making sure we have the right address for new card and he read out my address. Told me new card will be in mailbox 5 to 7 days. Totally legit as they did ask me for anything and they blocked my card on my app.

Caller: St George Got 2 texts from this number saying there had been transactions on my card. I was on a phone call when the transactions happened, so definitely not me purchasing anything! One was for a certain amount, the other was $0 dollars to test my card. I didn’t reply to the text, but rang the bank instead after checking my account online. Yes they really were fraudulent transactions, so just ring your bank straight away!
I have no idea how they got my card number as I hadn’t been out shopping in a week! It must have been skimmed either at Kmart or the petrol station, so I’ll be informing them to check their machines!

Caller: Westpac We recieved a text message with the following: Westpac Notofication: Card ending in xxxx has a transaction at 'GLOBAL WEBLOADING EC' for $20.63 at 2:25. If you do not recognise this, reply 'No' to have a Westpac agent contact you. No response is required if you recognise the transaction.
We did not reply to the text message but checked our account and Yes, there were 2 dodgey transactions. The first one to a charity to 'test ' the card, and a second fraudulent transaction. We called the Westpac fraud number obtained from the westpac site's chatbot. We rang the number, explained the situation and the stopped and re-issued the card. So, in summary, that number and it's accompanying message is legit, and yes, you've probably had dodgey transactions on your account. The lady we spoke to told us that the text message was from Westpac.

Caller: Text message Yes, it is a scam. It told me there was a 2 cent transaction on my card and asked me to reply if it was wrong. I didn't reply, because this is not how Westpac operates. I checked my Westpac card account and there was no such transaction. Judging from the number of messages here insisting that this is not a scam, obviously the scammers are posting messages. To find out whether they're right or I'm right, do the obvious -- Check your account or check with the bank before responding to anonymous messages.

Caller: St George Frauds Department This is NOT a fraud! We just got scammed with St George and when I was talking to their frauds department, questioning this text message they confirmed it is legitimate. The usual scammer process is to try and charge your credit card with a $0.00 amount from a random online company, and if you don't report it to your bank they will try again in a few weeks but for a MUCH larger amount. So yes, it is St George Bank, and yes, do respond "NO" to the text message if the transaction the query doesn't look right.

Caller: 0429 933 739 27th June 2023 DONT IGNORE THIS . IT LOOKS LIKE A SCAM BUT ITS NOT! Message from Westpac Alert to say my card was temporary blocked because of an attempted transaction byDepor Village for $318.86 on my card ending in the 4 numbers of my actual card. Respond Yes if I made the transaction and No if I didn’t and Westpac would contact me. I thought it WAS a Scam and checked my account online and no such transactions were showing as pending so this strengthened my thoughts of a scam but then went shopping and sure enough my card didn’t work. I’ve just come home and contacted Westpac card services to find out it is legitimate although the whole text looks otherwise. My card has now been cancelled and replacement ordered . A complete pain because I need to wait another week for the new card to come.
