Not a scam, I got this text today, rang Westpac and someone was trying to use my card details in the USA. They actually tried multiple times but the bank picked up on it and didn't let the transactions go through. Great job Westpac, I could have been out of pocket for thousands at the rate they were trying to spend my money.

Not a scam, this is genuine. I travelled to South Africa and Singapore for a week each. Noticed nothing unusual when I used my card. Received the txt noted above, replied and then received a call from Westpac fraud officer who told me my card has been cloned and is being used in China!
Follow this up if you get the txt.

i got a similar message on my mobile
"Westpac Alert: Transaction blocked on card ending XXXX at ÇHINA UNICOM (HK) OPER for $52.31 AT 23.31. If genuine, reply 'Yes'. If Fraud reply 'No'
I replied "No" and received a follow up text
"The block will remain on your card. A fraud officer will contact you via telephone within the next 20 minutes."
from web searches on this mobile number this is a scam that has been going on for quite some time.

I got this exact message saying from St George - I'm with Bank of Melbourne so I ignored it. Turns out it was legitimate and they had to stop my card and are replacing it... BUT - don't trust me on it, I could be anyone, however, if you do get this message just pop into your bank, it's still best not to get into the habit of replying to texts from people claiming to be banks (even though this time it was legitimate)

Actually this is a NOT a scam! I got the same text message saying from St George bank, and it was them detecting suspicious activity that really did happen. I called St George and yes they do send these texts, and also from Westpac they use the same number. I should have replied that it was fraud, might have stopped them from getting away with $400 of my money :(

See my messages re St George Bank. At first I thought it was scam. Then I called St George and confirmed that it was their SMS. A Canadian telco company attempted to withdraw $869.88 from my account at 4.11am. Bank send SMS at 4.12am. Although I did not respond to the SMS the bank stopped the transaction going ahead as it was unusual one. There is no point calling the number the SMS was sent, instead call the bank.

In addition to earlier two comments, St George recommended that i do not use my card until they issue a new one with different numbers as the current is now compromised. It appears they (the banks) do the right thing and the SMS was definitely not a scam.

Received SMS at 4.12am today saying: St George alert: Transaction blocked on card ending (and my last 4 digits) at 'ROGERSWL 1TIME' for $869.88 at 4.11. If genuine reply 'yes'. If fraud reply 'no'. I've checked my accounts and alerts and this definitely is a scam.
