Put ad on Gumtree received text message asking for a email asap with a willing price.
They responded with an long email saying how where they are located does not have reception and continued to instruct on how to use paypal. And in the mean time provide our home details and names so they can get their mover to inspect the item. And begin the payment process.
Called themselves Michelle.
Thank you Reverse Australia! Wouldn't have known how dodgey this person was!

I've just received dodgy sms enquiries to ads on gumtree and carsguide from this number. This phone is on the Telstra network and I will be reporting to them (doubt if they will do anything, but can't hurt).

SCAMMER. Dirty dog just tried to buy my bike off gumtree his msg seems to be along the same lines as every1 else's so glad I looked up the number. Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price but would be glad if you could state any issues with the present condition and service history,i work with New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG) and we are presently offshore in New Zealand Taranaki Basin on kupe project. We do not have access to phone at the moment, due to bad mobile network, and that's why I contacted you with internet messaging facility. am buying it for my son on his birthday.Regarding the payment, pls get back to me with your paypal details so i can process with the payment,or I can pay you through my paypal direct bank deposit, using my paypal instant bank wire transfer service, all i need is your bank details .I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct.

I got the same scam when selling my car on carsales.com.au - here is the reply email they send: Hi, I really appreciate your quick response over my request, I have gone through the car on the website and i am highly interested in it. i really want to get the car so i will accept your offer. I would have come for an inspection but due to the nature of my job and location I will not be able to come for an inspection, As am a very busy type and I work long hours everyday. I have gone through the advert and I am satisfied with it. Due to the amount involved in this transaction i will be paying via PayPal account which is the safest and secured online payment mode. If my mode of payment is accepted kindly send me your PayPal email address so i can make the payments as soon as possible or send me a payment request from your PayPal account so i can effect payment to you right away. If you don't have PayPal account yet it is very easy to set up go to www.paypal.com.au and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal. I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment have been made and he will take up everything after payment have been made… so no shipping included. Thanks for been kind and considerate.. await your response asap. Eleanor

This guy was active again yesterday, trying to buy a car from me on Gumtree. He says he can't use phone as marine engineer on ship, but sends email addy yobohugh46 @ gmail.com by text from this phone. The scam is he has trouble with forgetting banking card went going to sea, so MUST use *westernunion(not) to get paid into Paypal. I have zero paypal balance but got message to say car price plus $950 to send to his agent in China, who will be picking up car in Hobart to go to Darwin, in a spoof *payal(not) email. Quick check NOT using link in email spoofing *paypal(not, revealed zero balance. They want you to send the $950 to the Chinese agent so your full *paypal(not) account can receive agreed purchase price. Feel sorry for anyone who actually sends money via *westernunion(not) to this agent. Reported to Gummtree(useless), Federal Police( amused not surprised but took details), and Paypal(helpful)
