had posted my car on gumtree and saw this message at 4 in the morning from someone asking about the car and asking only to contact him at his email dm****04 @ gmail.com
It looked dodgy and so I checked it on the Internet and here I am putting in my comments.

Same story as everyone else, I was contacted twice from this number, and they were claiming to be two different people, asking about my car I had just listed on Cars Guide - I am going to report this number to Cars Guide and perhaps Car Sales too, not sure how much good it will do though. Perhaps also hand this number into the Police as well, just so they can keep a record.
Has anyone tried to call this number?

Glad I looked up this number, same deal a Guy Called Barry James said he was buying for his son in NT Darwin and he is a sailor on a ship and he was buying as a gift. Said he was already in the process of organising freighter to pick up. Then wanted my Paypal and bank details. Low Life Email Address was: barryjames123 @ hotmail.com

just got text from this number wanting to buy car.. same story.....he is on a boat....agent will pick up car..buying it as a surprise for son.... only paying by pay pal.... lucky I googled the number!!!

Just had the same sms as everyone else..calling themselves Michelle enquiring about a car for sale on gumtree. Whole sms was so badly written, knew straight away it was dodgy!!

Same here!Got SMS as described above. Asked about the condition of my Gumtree item which was listed on the ad already. Didn't have time to look at car, just buying for her son and wanted and asked for paypal account. Email johnhass1111 @ gmail.com. Scammer

same as everyone else, pay through paypal or bank acct and will have his courier pick it up and take to Darwin. I figured it was a scam when I was reading all about their job for New Zealand Oil and Gas (like I care where a buyer would work??)

Scammer, sent sms regarding a motorbike on gumtree. Email was pljason443 @ gmail.com

3 x SMS from same number so far this month, different names and email addresses on each. Gumtree needs to put up warning about this scammer..

Guy tried to hit me today for my Gumtree advertised boat. Standard method as described below by everyone else. Why, after all this time and so many complaints, is this guy still at it? Are the cops useless?

Called themselves michelle, got a sms, emailed them tha=en got a massive email back - i have heard about this scam so i sent them this email back:

Hi 'MICHELLE' - or is it Paul? Daniel? Isabella? Wayne? Jones? Nathan? Alex? Pamela? Fernando? Kelly? These are just some of your alias' right?

Anyway, thanks for the scam email, I enjoyed reading so much about how careful YOU have had to be to avoid scammers yourself. I had a very hard day at work today and i really needed that laugh. Have a good life - hopefully it includes some time behind bars!

Yes, got text messages from two 'different' people on this number asking about my car on Gumtree. Usual story - works as a marine engineer, buying for son as a surprise etc. Have reported to Scamwatch and would advise everyone else here to do the same. Have since removed my Gumtree ad and will not be using that website any more.
