Caller: Matt Pote

Matt rang me and another victim on the 4th August, Sunday morning, very upset, to tell me someone had smashed his front windows with a spanner. I don't answer his calls as l want a record of what he's said and my response in writing. I told him that l don't care basically and he has plenty of victims who might have done it. I told him to call the police but he can't really do that. Keep doing whatever you can, legally, to stop him. Tell paint shops, friends, neighbours, family, painters, local papers.

Matthew Pote is a con man alright. I got
conned about 5 years ago. He gave me the sob story that he had a nervous break- down after taking my money up front - I am a single white female so a perfect victim. He got $2,500 up front and never came back. I’ve only discovered this website. He needs to be stopped. Up until now I didn’t realise he was a con man. I just found paper work and thought I’d google him. What a complete prick. I hate him. He caused me so much stress.

I agree Mathew needs to be locked up, he has no conscience!!

Pote is a brazen lying conman thief who preys on the elderly and vulnerable. I urge all past and present victims to report him to Crime Stoppers and Channel 9 "Current Affair" so he can be exposed to warn others. The sooner he is locked up the better!!!

Surely his children don’t know how bad a criminal scum bag he is. They surely have the PG version. How old are they? This man needs locking up. Why has he not been arrested?

Matthew knocked on my door one night saying he left his wallet at home and needed petrol - could l 'lend' him $50 and he would return it the following day! Another day could l lend him $400 as he had given me a 'good' quote for the painting job (which he didn't start) his loan was coming through in 2 days' time and he would repay me then! I guess we all are angry we were so stupid! Matts father was a lovely man and a good painter and we thought Matthew would be the same! What a lesson!!!!! Mathew should be locked up!!

Matt continues to promise to repay what he owes me!! Supposedly waiting for 'Body Corporate' payment!! - another lie!! Is his house really up for sale??? Does his wife really know what he is doing??

Pote is a lying conman. Promises to repay debts , but has no intention of doing so. What a "wonderful" husband and role model for his children ( if he has a wife and family)!!!

I encourage everyone to tell as many people as you can about Matt. Friends , neighbours, paint stores. Contact ScamWatch and A Current Affair. Do not take his phone calls. Remember he is a professional conman and thinks he can make you feel sorry for him. Texts are a record of your conversation. He has no morals, human decency or conscience. We have to stop him.

My neighbour and I are also victims of this creature. This morning we reported him to Box Hill police. it may require other "victims" to report him for something to be done about him!

We have experienced the same as everyone else. He has 'borrowed' money, with the promise of repaying but of course he hasn't. Worked for half a day and has not been seen since - promises he will return..... Obviously has some kind of money issues -
