Presumed to be Telstra - Knew my information, however everything was working at my end so told them that I wouldn't give out any further information. Asked how I can confirm they are with Telstra - was going to give me their employee number but can't check that!!!!

Caller: Said he was from Telstra

He said he was from Telstra and asked for my full name and DOB. Didn't provide it but asked him what he calling about. Said my nbn which was just connected yesterday. Half an hour previously I had received a follow up call from Telstra re my nbn from the team I had previous dealings with and knew were legit. Told him this. He then said OK, thank you for choosing Telstra and hung up.

Re the staff number - I have had people make that up before... I often ask for that AND a number so I can call them back.

I had just been dealing with Telstra so could have been them calling back - but no-one there when I answered (twice).

Tip: Always ask any caller that says they are from Telstra for their Delta number - something like D123456. They should know it without hesitation. If they are phoney they will likely hang up. If they are genuine, make a note of the number and keep a record of your conversation - you will get generally get better service as they have to take ownership of the issue.

Claiming to be from telstra - asking to verify account info - seems fishy!
