We just received a call to my 85 year old mother's phone threatening prosecution for Tax Evasion and Fraud. Thankfully we recorded the call because it was the most threatening call anyone could receive let alone an old person. They state they have already initiated court action against you and they are advising you will be prosecuted. They even give a badge number etc to make them sound authentic. Talk about aggressive and intimidating. Please warn your elderly relatives to hang up and do not call the number because it is a VOIP number.

My husband got 4 calls today from this number with regards to a motor vehicle accident insurance claim from 2 years ago.... He played along with it giving the usual banter lines - your calling me - you must have my details who is the insurance company (they said privacy laws means can't confirm which insurance company involved. ...) they go on to say that's there $30,000 here waiting for him..... Google car insurace phone scams and its comes up as a top search. Scamnet.com I think the page was, giving a run down on recent scams coming to light.
Yeah, it's just like the police are waiting at our door / gate to arrest him for tax avoidance last week.... Goodness I hope they aren't still waiting for him. 🤔🤔 How will I go shopping? ?
Please block numbers - warn older folk who may not be as savvy and tricked into giving personal information. ...
Just remember - phone calls of the blue offering help to find a "windfall " of money is just to good to be true and should be setting off alarm bells.
Stay phone safe people and let friends and family know of sites like these before ringing back an unknown number.

Clearly a scam - voice with American undertones. HQ and badge numbers - very American. And since when does Australia have "Commonwealth court houses in your region". This is not only targeted at older people - I'm only 49!
Has this anything to do with the recent hacks of the ATO and centrelink? Either way, call the ATO DIRECTLY if you have any concerns

Same as Chey. Computer generated message left on our answering machine threatening legal action and leaving phone number to call. Take about morons, but I suppose they're out there on both ends of the call. It may scare an older person if they're one their own though.

As Chey said earlier, it's a bogus tax evasion call.
My voicemail answering machine recorded it;
This is a national scam & pre-recorded (actual person talking) message.
There are no specifics obviously, "local district" etc., and they don't mention who needs to call them. They're just phoning houses & hoping for suckers; Though not using a computer robot sounding voice will con more people unfortunately.
