Caller: Guy with bad english accent claiming to be from Macquarie cards Called me from this number. Claimed to be from Macquarie bank. Same speil, some purchase in Perth, im on the east coast, so it must be fraudulent, thats why hes calling Said I don't have an account with Macquarie. Kept assuring me that I have an account with Macquarie and said if I look at the first 4 digits of my card 4984 it will.be my card number. I advised the scammer that I am from the banking industry and 4984 is the 1st 4 numbers of every Macquarie card in Australia. That's how card designations work. Scammer became irritated and demanded I tell him why they have my details if I'm not a customer. Kept trying to get me to confirm my personal details. Refused. Asked for supervisor. Apparently scammer is the supervisor. I asked why a supervisor is making standard fraud alert calls and not managing his team.

Caller: 'STANLEY THOMAS' claimed to be feom ANZ fraud department Stanley Thomas claimed to work for ANZ and that a Google Pixel phone had been used to pay for $296.23 (or some such) at Aldi Perth this morning. He said my account had been hacked.
He claimed the person used my account details to connect their phone to my account to make payment.
He asked if I know what phishing scams are and assured me that my money was safe and I would not have any issues now they stopped payment and flagged the phone.
Said they saw I was in the GC and that as the payment was made this morning somewhere unusual: Perth.
'Stanley' sounded like a young man of UK West indian or African descent trying too hard to have a perfect toff British accent. There was a slight London accent instead. From his voice, my guess he was early 20s at best, and not fat. (Yes, you can hear that in voices).
The number he called from did not pick up when I called it, after telling him was was outside an ANaz branch and about to go in and ask the staff to call it.
He went overboard assuring me that he was only there to help me and saying 'not to worry, we're putting you on Level 3 security, giving you a new account number, BSB, card number, expiration and CCV.'
When I asked what other questions he wanted answers to, he refused to go off script.
He told me to access my account on my phone and to tell him the balance in my account.
Instead, I asked him to relay my postal address. He stalled, then gave me one feom 2 decades ago.
So I asked him to tell me which payment had recently bounced, how much for and who attempted to make the withdrawal. The line went dead.
Man these people need to get a life and a conscience. And they should know better than to try and rip off someone with an already empty account!
