Pretty sure this is a scam.

1. They call and ask if you have a computer in the house, and if it has been running slowley.
2. They say they are Microsoft's support partner and have received error reports from your computer, which they can help you fix.
3. They then take you through a few steps to gain your trust, showing you things which are not actually problems
4. They discover that you are not covered by the warranty, and direct you to a webpage where you can purchase a support plan.  That's as far as I got before the penny dropped so to speak.

Reasons why this is a scam:
* The only personal details they had about me are available from the phone book (last name, first initial and address)
* The domain microtechcare.com (where they direct you for payment) was first registered on 29-Jul-10
* The email address listed on the domain is a Gmail address
* The positive comment above from 'nicola' has the date 2 March in it (despite being posted in August), which is before the domain was registered.

OMG, I nearly became part of the scam but me brain kicked into gear when the Asian chap  calling himself Jake, became pushy about me opening my computer despite me telling him I was busy and not near the computer.  Exactly the same dialogue as many others have stated in their messages.  Flipped the conversation so I became the 'interviewer' and would check this Jake chap and his organisation out.  He gave me a number 161 408 11 37 saying he was from Microtech support based in Blackburn.  Kept asking me when I was going to ring him back!  Told him when I checked his credentials out!!!!!!   That's one phone call I won't be wasting today.  If you read this regularly Jake or Microtech or what ever you call yourselves, there's only one 'virus' around!!!!!

Thanks, messagers for your tips about scanning my computer mates; I'll do that now as a precaution.

Now this guy is calling in Canada. Same spiel and very agressive when you don't play along. He got his "Supervisor" on the phone to vouch for his legitimacy. Yea right.  Just another guy with that same thick accent. Just like weeds: Very hard to get rid off.
Microsoft will NEVER have some one call us to warn of imminent danger or for any other reason.

These guys took care of my computer and removed all the malicious files. Now, since i signed up with them for one full year, i can feel secured that my computer is not going to be prone to hackers. 2nd March 2010

I just got this call. Same sitch- knew phone number, address, last name, first initial...Said he was from Microsoft Support and my HP computer had been sending errors.  When I said that my HP computer hasn't even been turned ON in months, he (smoothly) asked if there were other computers on the same network (which there are). He then said the problem could be fixed from another computer, which immediately sent up the red flag. After a rather rough interaction where he claimed that if I denied their services now, Microsoft would not be able to help me in the even of a crash- I realized he was using fear tactics and told him I thought he was full of sh!t...his reaction: "well...f*ck off."Oy. Scam, scam, scam.
