An automated voice told me my tax situation wasn't in order and I was about to be arrested. Sinister!!! And rubbish. I'm on the Aged Pension.

Caller: Someone claiming to be Nancy Smith from the ATO Claimed a warrant for my arrest, legal action and details required for a lawyer for knowingly unpaid taxes over a 2 year period as a result of an internal audit finding a miscalculation of which I wrongfully benefited. Many threats of prosecution, freezing of assets etc. were made throughout the call from this point.
After pressing for more information she was becoming increasingly frustrated and when asking about the resolution process, her comments about payments became inconsistent and when asking to clarify she ended the call.

Caller: (03) 9015 4804 Has a robot voice recording that basically says something about tax and unsigned papers have been returned to them by mail including a "warrant for your arrest" and that legal action will take place using words out of an American movie. It then tells me if I want further information I must press 1 now, and finishes with saying "this is time sensitive"

These guys are trying to extort money from you. Telstra would have no idea you had a problem, neither would Microsoft or anyone else they say they are from. They get you to allow them to log on remotely, then put either a Trojan on your computer or lock it up until you pay them large sums of money to unlock. Hang up as soon as they say they know there is an issue with your computer they have to fix.
