I was called by Jack from 'Telstra', to let me know that viruses have been downloading on my computer. Jack spoke with an Indian accent and the number came up as 'withheld'. He wanted me to turn on my computer straight away to rectify the problem. I thought it sounded suspicious and asked for his number so I could ring him back (and check the number given). Nothing came up, but certainly wary of the approach that he used.

They called this morning, said they were from "The Telstra". They claimed their building address was 22 Exhibition St., in Melbourne (there's no building with that address). I'm a systems analyst and if I can, I like to bother these people by keeping them on the line and getting as much bull from them and to waste their time. They had strong Indian accents with very poor grammar. They told me that my IP address had been de-registered from the Telstra server. Ha! I don't have Telstra (although they are upstream from my ADSL provider). I continued to ask them for proof of their identity and locating. It took them forever to 'find' their own phone number? And then the numbers were rattled off quickly as to obscure them. The main thing they want people to do is log into their website so they can plant threats through browser exploits. When I have extra time, I like to pretend I'm sitting in front of my computer and then keep on asking questions about fictitious problems I'm having with other computers but the main thing is DON'T GO THE WEBSITE THEY WANT YOU TO GO TO AND DON'T CHANGE ANY SETTINGS ON YOUR COMPUTERS THAT THESE CRIMINALS SUGGEST! The funny thing is, I told them I was a computer security professional and that there was no way I was going to go to a website until they could prove they were calling from Telstra, and they kept on failing to prove who they were and trying to get me to go to the website. Australian authorities really need to look at how VOIP and forwarding services allow criminals to operate.

Definately a scam. Telstra will not call you unless you owe them money :)

Caller: Telstra These guys are still going. Mr Brian Wilson (ex Beach Boys) phoned to report NBN cancellation. I asked to be removed from their database. We both knew this was a scam.

Just got a phone call on landline from a woman with Indian accent telling me she was Tom Telstra and that I immediately need to rectify hundreds of errors on my computer. Told her I was busy, could I ring her back. Gave me this number to call. Checked the number and come up with many others who gave been phoned. Don't listen to the, like one previous comment, 'they only call you if they want your money' i.e overdue account or they want to sell you more stuff.

OK, they fooled my friend two days ago, I was telling her it was a scam while she sat at her computer watching them install stuff. Today she admitted I was right. These people are succeeding in ripping off vulnerable people, using a land-line. How can they not have been arrested already? While talking to my friend a few minutes ago her webcam switched on by itself. These are very bad people, no one phones you to tell you that you have viruses on your computer, no one except scammers. Got that, NO ONE Sorry for shouting but many of my friends seem to be DEAF. NO ONE

Just got a call (on my mobile - blocked caller ID) from Grace from the Technical Department of Telstra. She told me that hackers had got my personal details by hacking into my computer. She asked me to get on my computer which I pretended to do. She talked me through pushing certain buttons on my keyboard simultaneously to prevent hackers from infiltrating my computer - yeah right!!! I asked for her ID number which she gave as D409/789. She also gave me her direct line being (03) 9013 4396. After ten minutes of playing along with her she said something should have appeared on my screen after pushing the buttons. She was getting quite agitated that there was no response on my computer by pushing these buttons. I then told her I was not a Telstra customer and I had satellite internet and not a phone line connection. Strangely the conversation ceased! Another overseas scam...

"Mark" (with Indian accent) trying on the same "Telsta is monitoring all Australian connections and yours has a computer virus". etc. When pressed he gave me this number and kept insisting that Telstra was the only Australian provider that had monitoring access to every internet connection despite the fact we're with a completely different carrier.
I used to be mildly amused, but this time I wanted to see how far he'd go in providing " proof". Can't ASIC or AFP do anything about these scammers?

Hi "Steven Goodword" called today from (07) 3018 7514 and told me he was from telstra and to stay on the phone and cooperate as my internet has been hacked and i am part of cyber crime. Hung up and reported to telstra. He said I could call him back on (03) 9013 4469, Threatened my internet would be disconnected if I did not cooperate and told me call is being recorded.

These people told me they were from Telstra. I don't have a Telstra account. I kept asking who they were really from. Told them I knew they were scammers. Asked for phone number. Got this one. I know of somebody who fell for this. An elderly person who had actually rang Telstra earlier. These people should be shot. Do the callers know what they are doing or are they patsies?

Same experience as others listed here except for one scary thing - Rose Brown (thick Indian accent) spoke with my 11 year old daughter. She did not ask for an adult and was pushing the child to give her our I P address. Luckily the child didn't but these people will stop at nothing. Reported to police.

Had similar experiences to the above 2 calls both from ppl with thick Indian accents. First call from rose from Telstra saying they were having problems with our internet speed and wanted to rectify the problem and asked me turn off my computer. Thought it sounded suspicious so asked for her ph number so I could call her back. Then a few hours later got another call from Trevor from the technical dpt at Telstra said that he regrets to inform me that our internet connection will be disconnected as of today. I promptly told him that I was with another carrier and hung up. Twice in one day they're definitely determined I'll give them that!

Guy called saying his name was Adam Ferrel (with strong Indian Accent) and he was from Telstra Bigpond and he needed to check some issues with my internet access. Tried to gain info about my account etc, which I refused. He gave me this number when I said I would call him back. It was re-routed overseas, so definitely not a Victorian number! I call Consumer Protection - they said this is definitely a scam!

Caller claimed to be from "Telstra". Tried to do the CLSID 888DCA60 scam. Failed to pass some basic checks which I won't list here coz I don't want to let them know what they were. They gave this number so I could check their authenticity.
