They are the same pests as on (07) 3177 3358. They call my mobile number and as soon as I pick up the buggers hang up. I think they try to get you to ring back so it costs them nothing to give you an earful of garbage. Surprise? An Indian who cannot be understood no matter how hard you try. It is just as well our landline is unlisted, we used to get these calls about twenty times a week. The rumour had it then that these people used to train new employees in rejection and abuse, picking the ones REALLY annoyed. I even learnt some nasty Hindi and Urdu swearing. It worked for a while. I did not even know what it meant but it was supposed to have something to do with mothers, dogs and other animalia.

I have received numerous calls from 24/7 promoting insurance, funeral benefits and even filtered water. I have politely told them to take them off my list and they confirmed that they had done this. They advise they get the information from "Australia on Disk", so despite being on the do not call register my number is still being sold to telemarketing companies. The latest excuse today from 24/7 is "they are having trouble with their phone system, so I may still continue to receive calls" - not good enough in my opinion.

An annoying nuisance best to avoid if possible. I have to put my telephone on silence in the evening.

Why do I get the feeling that these are telemarketing employees pretending to make sales calls - they just hang up!

These people have called me about 10 times over the last fortnight. I have only answered today and a lady said 'hi is this Mrs x' (she got my name right, though it was my maiden name which I changed three years ago). I said yes then she said how are you today and then hung up. DON'T BOTHER.

Re my previous comment, this is from the Do Not Call Register (www.donotcall.gov.au):

How long will it take before I stop receiving phone calls or faxes?

If you have registered your number(s) for the first time, it may take up to 30 days for telemarketing agencies to recognise your registration and stop calling (and faxing) your number(s); or
If you have re-registered your number(s) before they expire, your number(s) will remain on the Register. Telemarketers will continue to recognise your registration and not call or send faxes to your number(s); or
If you have re-registered your number(s) after they have expired, it may take up to 30 days for telemarketing agencies to recognise your registration and stop calling or sending faxes to your number(s).
What can I do if I still receive calls or faxes after 30 days?

If you are still receiving telemarketing calls or marketing faxes after 30 days, you can lodge a complaint.
Who can still call me or fax me?

Registering your number on the Do Not Call Register will not stop all calls or marketing faxes to your number(s). There are some limited exemptions which enable certain public interest organisations to make telemarketing calls or send marketing faxes. Exempt organisations include charities, religious organisations, educational institutions and political parties.
Companies with which you have an on-going business relationship will still be allowed to call or fax your number(s) even if it is on the Register. For example, it may be reasonable to expect to receive a telemarketing call (or fax) from a financial institution, utility, service provider or telephone carrier if you have an existing account. You may request the business to stop calling you and/or faxing at any time.
Two weeks before this date, a reminder email will be sent advising that your registration is about to expire and that you need to re-register your number(s). However, you don't need to wait until your registration expires to re-register your number for another eight years.

Received call today. Called them back, with my number hidden. They said they got my number from a database, similar to White Pages. They said they were calling about Insurance Line. They said they weren't trying to sell insurance. It's pretty much a survey. I don't see how this type of thing serves any kind of purpose. We can all use google can't we?? I requested they not call again and I was told I could go to the do-not-call register and wait 30 days(!). I look forward to abusing the people who called if they decide to call again in the next 30 days.

Its not an insurer but a telemarketing agency.

They called me for a week and I finally answered a call today. They identified themselves as 24/7 Direct and wanted to ask me about my life insurance and income protection policies. She Insisted that they were not trying to sell insurance over the phone, and that it was a "courtesy call". When I told her that I had existing policies she thanked my for my time and said goodbye. Haven't called me since.

24/7 Direct is a telemarketing agency who provide services to large companies. So not really a scam, just a pain in the a***. Best bet is answer the phone and tell them you don't need the product. They'll remove you from the call list.

Hope this helps
