Caller: Origin Energy Definitely NOT a scam!! I received a call from this number whilst on another call. At that time I didn't answer it but looked on this site to see where it may have come from. I actually suspected it was Origin because I had rung the company earlier in the day. I was expecting a call back from a case manager after threatening to call the ombudsman regarding a 12 month delay for replacing a faulty electrical meter. The number rang again shortly after the first time and I took the call. Cristene from Origin answered and I said I had put another call on hold to speak to her and can I call her back. After she confirmed I couldn't call her back on the same number she gave me another number whereby the last four digits were different; (03) 8903 9480. Clearly the "9207" number is for Origin's outgoing calls so those calling it will only reach a message bank.
People need to realise that an organisation as big as Origin is going to have multiple departments and some of these don't need to connect directly to others. Ergo, it would be unlikely the receptionist you ring on the 13xxxx or the 1800xxxxxx or the 1300xxxxxx is going to recognise every phone number in the organisation and therefore it doesn't mean they aren't genuine Origin numbers.

While the original number is Origin it is being spoofed by scammers. Do not divulge information and call back Origin.

Caller: Claimed to be Origin Claimed to be from Origin and asked me to provide my full name and DOB, I advised no I won't do that as you called me and that's how scammers get details. She said again she was from Origin.... I again said no I will not supply my details if this really is Origin feel free to email me.... and I am yet to receive an email.
If this really is Origin they need to find better ways to contact their clients as random phone numbers asking for full name, DOB and address is NOT how they should do business. It looks and sounds like a scam, and if it isn't a scam I think Origin need to fix their processes.

Lady with Australian accent trying to say she's from Origin and that we haven't taken up the government rebate for solar panels. Advised we already have panels but she said it doesn't look like they're working as it's not reflected on our bill. I asked to verify that she had the correct account by asking her give me my account number but she advised she can't give me that information due to privacy reasons - even though I said I could verify the authorised information.
