My mum just had this number call her saying they were from the Government and wanted to give her $6500 for not having a bad record etc.... scammers...

The calling himself Peter this time (indian accent) called my mum just now and tried the centrelink story. He had her mobile number and address and was phishing for more details, ostensibly so he could "confirm" bank details they had on record. My mum has only ever given her number and address at those charity stalls outside shopping centres selling raffle tickets for various causes (lifesaving clubs etc.)...I'm almost certain that some individual is taking these details and selling them.

They are still at. Contacted my elderly parents yesterday.

They tried to scam to my father yesterday, still active!

Just received a call from a man stating he was advising that the pension was going up 30%, I argued straight away as I am not on a pension, never received Centrelink nor eligible. His retort was that with the rise I will be eligible, I then argued the fact stating I wasworking and asked why did he ring me? He then asked are you working? I replid fullime - he abruptly hung up.

Yes. Just had a call from 'Jack Patel' at (03) 8820 5064. Verification number 549113. I had been asleep so i did begin answering questions. Then woke up when they asked for bank account details.

While on the phone I googled the tel.number and found this page!

Yes, they're still at it. Called me yesterday, regarding an alleged increase in our Centrelink Age Pension - "up to 30% - just need to verify that you qualify for the full increase". etc. Unfortunately they already had a lot of my info, got a lot more from stupid me who trusted them. But since when has the Govt. ever given age pensioners a 30% increase? I should have known better. Felt so uneasy I called Centrelink. As soon as they heard it was a strong Indian accent they told me to call my bank immediately and put a stop on everything vulnerable. Did this, took other steps to protect myself, reported it to SCAMwatch, and will be phoning the Crimestoppers with further information, because the weirdest thing is that a woman called me back today, asking for the answers to my secret questions.on my Bank account, would you believe?. Told her I knew what she was doing - it was cruel and unscrupulous, robbing vulnerable old people who've worked hard for their money..Gave her a blast, told her if she's smart enough to be a thief, she's smart enough to earn an honest living, etc... I hope they catch these beggars.

Just had his no call and theyadvised me that they are ringing from centrelink in melbourne, but when you ring this no it rings then transfers to another, if you ring this no out side overseas hours you get a recorded message that this no is not is not available and to call back. I got another phone call from this time centerlink in Sydney NSW, she told me that i was enitled to more centerlink payments, I asked why when I am not getting payments at all and I was working full time they said that if you don't earn more than $5000 a month Gross then your entiled to this payment, they then asked me for my bank details and my date of birth in which I asked them if they rang me and they truely are from centerlink then they should have all my details she then asked if I wanted to continue the call i said no she just hung up, this would be a scam 100% so people don't get caught

Just had this number call. Said they were from the government wanting to give 6k. As soon as I mentioned the word "scam" - he hung up. Recorded the call too.

This guy just rang me from what actually sounded like a call centre. He stated he was from the Australian Govt. Grants Dept and said I was owed $6k odd from taxes I have paid in my life time. Odd it wasn't the ATO calling then. Anyway as soon as he asked for my DOB I said no, you give me a number to call you on to verify you are who you say you are and this was the number he gave. Reverse search shows no results, again odd for a Govt number
