I called back number (03) 8633 7886 reached IVR for a company called AGL Energy.

Stop calling me!

AGL. Called back, was a welcome call as just switched to them.

Caller: Claims to be AGL but ...

... after conversation direct with AGL (I have just switched over service) they state no one has been attempting to call.

I have been called multiple times from the same number, computer dialled, no answer when I answer the call then hangs up. When I rang back the number (and I know this was a risk) a short recorded message claiming to be AGL and then the call went dead with no one answering their end.

If it was AGL they have a broken system, if it wasn't there is a scammer claiming to be from AGL

Recently returned to AGL for energy. After reading the other comments, I presume it is an AGL call. No message is ever left and I don't answer nor reply to unknown numbers

It is a welcome call from AGL.
If many of you just answered the phone in the first place, you wouldn't have the trouble you are having trying to call back international call centres.

I had just signed up with AGL for electricity, claimed to be representing AGL energy and giving me a welcome call and get me to switch to gas. Now the gas deal he was offering was 2% worse than what AGL was offering online for the exact same plan.

They kept phoning me, never left a message. I phoned the number back and it was a recorded message for AGL (I was put in a queue for the next consultant). I've just switched over to them. I hung up as I don't like waiting on hold. I'll answer next time they phone

DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO THIS CALLER.
AGL confirmed that this is a old customer of them and it is not from AGL. suggested me to contact police to report this. However AGL has no idea why this old customer get my contact information since they do not disclose customer info...

This call is really suspicious.

yes I had just switched to AGL and then started getting calls from this number. I rejected the calls several times but then I rang them back and it is just a welcome call from them via a third party call centre (sounded like in the Philipines).

they are harrassing me - i never am around to answer the call - they never leave a message - leave a fking message if you feel you need to call me everyday!

Rings several times a day. No one anwers usually. Is it a scam pretending to be AGL ?
