Woman with an indian sounding accent called claiming to be from "Apple Maps". Wanted to confirm the location of our business.

My concern is that the call was recorded for me to a sneer yes and no. I’m actually very concerned that they were recording me.

Received call from this number at my place of work, was a heavily accent guy. Could not understand what he was saying at all, did have to ask nicely (and very politely as it was on a business number) to repeat himself and after the second ask, did ask if he could email the business. I got hung up on.

asked for business hours. Heavy accent so missed a few keys words. sounded like they wanted to visit the store so wanted open hours. I was mindful of scams where they want you to say 'yes' so i avoided that. He read out the hours he could see listed and i had to agree they were correct.

Caller, female, barely cogent English with a marked Indian Subcontinental accent. Asked for confirmation of business address details, on behalf of a directory I have never heard of - which I refused to confirm and terminated the conversation. This number has called twice in two days and has now been blocked as suspicious.

I have received calls from this number before and felt the same thing, that it was a scam. I can confirm that it is legit. When you claim your business on Apple Maps, they will cal to verify your phone number, trading hours etc to confirm that you are legit. Trouble is, the staff calling barely understand English. If you answer their questions (which is just confirming your name, business name, and trading hours), they seem to be able to get that together. Ask them anything else, and they are dumbfounded!

I can understand why people think (Apple) is a scam

Just had a call from this number asking for my business hours.
The male had a heavy accent, launched straight in to asking my opening hours.
I asked where he was calling from and he said 'Apple Maps.
I decided to answer with my business address and hours, since I'm not really sure what they can do with this information?
Interestingly, I also had a call from a prospective client last week wanting to book a service with me, and when I asked where they got my number, they said Apple Maps.
I found this page as soon as I hung up, so I hope nothing bad comes of this...

Caller: First one was man, second one was woman.

First one called me with Indian accent and asked me to confirm the business address and said something that I couldn’t understand then I hung up.

Then I immediately checked on google what’s this number and people said it’s scammer.

15 minutes later, second one called me (Australian number 04xx) and asked me something that I couldn’t understand as well as first one and I realised that there is a noisy background then I hung up.

Scam. Called me twice. Heavy accented Indian guy.

He called us asking if this was our business address which is also our home address. He said can you confirm your address “ 1 Smith Street, Fake town” and then I said I’m sorry I’m not confirming that information. I asked where he was from, he said “ Apple Maps” extremely suspicious.

Highly likely to be a scam.

Better to ignore the call.
When the phone stops ringing just block the number (but they may try on different numbers until they get through).

The caller was a woman with an Indian accent (the background noise was very loud and the caller was almost shouting as I couldn't hear her clearly).

The caller didn't identify herself but just directly asked some questions. The questions included:
"Is this (name of business)?"
"What are your opening hours/days?"
"Are you located in (address of the business)?"
"Do you have a website?"

The name, location and phone number of the business is easily available on Google Maps but since we have never put these information up online/manage them (likely one of our customers that have gone and done it for us).

The last question about the website, the answer was "No, we don't have a website" and the caller seemed to be very disappointed and basically thanked me before ending the call.

Since Google Maps have the wrong operating hours (I had given the caller the correct hours which differ significantly) and we had no website it was clear we weren't very proactively seeking to promote our business online.
I also believe my younger age had a role in the caller hanging up early.

I suspect that if I had a website, the caller may have attempted run a scam by either trying to offer to put my business & website listed on the so-called "Apple Maps" (as other people have commented here) for a fee.

I believe this service is associated with debt collection as I am experiencing financial hardship since COVID and have both water and council rate debtors. Only thing i can think of. Business name not appropriately listed
