This is the latest ATO scam. Don't return their call. The ATO does not act in this way (I am a tax agent) and you would receive numerous letters before it got to this. Obviously using a new number because everyone knows the old ones.

I have received a call from this number. They left a recorded message saying something about the Taxation Office and needing to contact my lawyer for an urgent time sensitive issue. When I returned the call, the number disconnected.

Yes, I got a call that a message left on answering machine saying that I need to respond to the message by calling back before the ATO takes action against me.

Follow up - I received a call from this same number with a real person calling. He identified himself as being from the ATO and quoted a 'badge number' (dodgy!) and wanted me to provide my attorney details due to 'serious pending litigation'. I told him I know this is not how the ATO operates and I knew it was a scam. He was brazen enough to just ignore my response and ask what my annual income was! I just hung up & reported to scamwatch again. Hopefully the number gets shut down soon!

Also received two messages (about 4hrs apart today) asking to urgently call this number

Received consecutive calls one after the other with messages left purporting to be ATO reps. Clearly a scam, Wonder of the Telcos can write a script or release a patch to blanket ban calls from these numbers as they pop up. ATO, Telco's, media and government should advertise high profile warnings from time to time to protect the vulnerable.

I received three recorded messages in one day from this number. I immediately knew it was a scam. I couldn't decipher the first few seconds due to poor audio. This is what I could make out, "...the issue at hand is extremely time-sensitive. I'm officer Micky (or Ricky) Johnson from the Australian Taxation Office and the hotline to my division is (03) 6121 4123, I repeat, (03) 6121 4123. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Goodbye and take care."

I have had the same thing happen twice today. The recorded message says I should not disregard the message, and should call before they take action against me. But the number disconnects when I call it. Frustrating, hey?!

I just got one as well, there is a place reserved for these people in hell right next to shonky used car salesman, real estate agents and dodgy accountants.

Just had this message on my home phone and so checked the ATO website. As with most government departments it wasn't much help but the above reply from "scammers" confirmed my suspicions so I won't be returning any calls. This is the sort of scam that my Mum would have fell for, I hope they get their comeuppance!

Says they're Australian Taxation Office - caller NIcki Johnson. Asking for me, or my Lawyer to contact them immediately......

I also have a message exactly the same left on my answering machine. I won't be returning their call and will pass on the information to my accountant.
