Received a call from the ATO stating I was being investigated for tax fraud. I needed to call my lawyer

Just received a suspicious phone call saying that I was being investigated for tax fraud by the ATO. Telling me to call them back with my lawyer 🤔

I received a very abrupt message from an Indian man saying I need to call them back and not to disregard this call. Ummmmm... disregarded.

Some filthy curry munching dog claiming to be from the ATO telling me im being investigated for tax evasion/fraud. Sounds like a con to me. Been reported.

Just received a foreigner telling me that we have committed fraud. as soon as I hear a foreigner speaking I automatically think that it is dodgy. unfortunately this is the way it goes.

Got a message on my phone from a no ID caller, didn't say who they were nor did they use my name to leave message. I was firmly warned not to disregard the message by the caller who had an indian accent, I entered the number into browser and no surprise, another scam/telemarketer/begger. I get more calls from these nobodys than I do my contacts. There's a petition on change.com to stop these types of calls. Support it.

I've reported it to the ATO.

Just received a very aggressive message to call or have my lawyer call the number. He butchered the Queens' english. Should stick to cooking poppadoms rather than suggest he is from the ATO.

Tax Scam

Scam call. Automated message purporting to be from a Commonwealth government department investigating me.

recorded message about calling them back, so called back from a different phone number and just keeps getting an engaged signal.

Had 2 voice messages left from this number this morning... both from an Indian sounding man, but very clearly stating "Bank. Please do not ignore this message and call immediately (03) 4309 4130. I repeat (03) 4309 4130. Thank you"

I guess the assumption is for us to believe the name of the bank was not recorded or we didn't hear it.

Anyway, I have attempted to call this number a few times now to find out who it is and what they want (with my suspicious mind on full alert) but it is constantly engaged.

Amazed that people have so little time to do an honest days work for an honest dollar, but would prefer to waste our time in the hope of scamming us for easy money.

This guy told me that I was audited for my tax and will be charged and arrested for tax evasion. It sounded very legit at first and threatened to have the police at my door where I will arrested and sentenced to 5 years in prison if I don't settle my miscalculated debts. I called the police straight after to report

they called me first from a private number - then the second time w this number and the same dodgy recorded message about a legal investigation
