Nebulous and vague warning regarding ATO fraud left on answering machine by a person with an accent (possibly Indian), warning me that they would have to send the police around to take me into custody if I didn't call back on this number, and that it was very important. Needless today I didn't call back.

A female with Indian accent left a message on my phone stating that she is from the ATO. I didn't understand her name but perhaps Jenny Ford Smith. She says,, The nature and purpose of the call is that you have received a legal loss against your name. There is a warrant out against you issued by the ATO for tax fraud. Don't discard this message the matter is very serious and time sensitive you must call me on (03) 4100 0116 . Melb, Aust

They left a message about police coming to arrest me for tax evasion advising I should call back, and because I had same type of call a couple of weeks ago along the same lines but from a Sydney number. I recorded it, called them back, said I worked for the Tax Department and wanted her full name and was told what I could do with myself, and slammed the phone in my ear.

This is obviously doing the rounds!!! I just got exactly the same message on my answer machine from Jenny Ford Smith as above "The nature and purpose of the call is that you have received a legal loss against your name. I have just received the same phone call, very insistent that I phone her back . Did not give her name or name the intended recipient.

A female with Indian accent left a message on my recorder that they are from ATO investigating for Tax Fraud. Message left with no name to call back to, simply a "ring me back" . Threatened that if i don't they will call the federal police to arrest "you". Did not name who is the person of concern.

I also received a call today from a guy with an indian accent saying exactly the same thing. They caught me when I was feeling unwell so it took me a few seconds to figure out it was a scam. Lucky I didnt give them my details.
I'm glad people have reported them - makes me mad that people can be so dodgy. Don't let the call freak you out.

Yes, I had one of these calls too! - very rude people - lucky I called the ATO & they gave me the right number to call. If you get one of these calls ring the ATO & they will advise who you need to speak to.

Just got a message from a man with an indian or similar accent. Said to phone back and not to ignore. Stated he was calling from the ATO.

Same message here. Immediately, they must be phoning around...

The same call I had yesterday but with a different number. (03) 4309 4121. Both are in my block list. I have reported them to the ATO scam hotline and hope they get caught soon

I got exactly the same message sounded like Jennifer Smith but did not give a name of the person they wanting so alarm bells straight away I was thinking what did I do wrong ha would love to ring them back play dumb for a while like the lady at the top record them too thanks for all the above posts I was freaking out for a minute

I have now received four messages left on my answering machine from this indian lady, she says exactly the same thing each time and the message seems to be prerecorded. She is very insistent that I call back otherwise she will report the fraud to the federal police. Needless to say I have not called back.

Got message today same as all the rest on here could tell was scam right away and a quick google showed it was
The dident ask for anyone by name and dident leave a ref number

Same ATO msg threating to send police
