Have not had much of these calls for a few months, but noticed my mobile phone, call blocker software, is reporting it at least 2 a ay for the last few days. The last time i actually answered tis number it was the scammer with the "...you have Windows security issues, and we are here to help..", who I strung along for a record 25 minutes, before telling i could not understand the issue as i run Linux, and was just holding them so the AAFP could trace them and charge them. (OK i admit it, I lied, I do run Windows!) For those who can, divert your landline to your mobile at night or for a week or so, and use the "block call" option, if you have the. If not, try for better than 25 minutes, before telling them you run Linux, and have a great laugh.

continually get calls from this number. I now just place them on hold, or hang up....
Id I am in the mood I may speak with them acting naïve but divulge nothing and ask lots of silly and irrelevant questions
I had one person on the phone for about 20 minutes - in then end they became annoyed and hung up on me

Beware of the phone number 0011976000. It has been confirmed as a south east asian call centre where the callers on the pretext that your computer is faulty get you to go to their online site to download a patch to fix the issue. Of course you are downloading software which steals pretty much everything on your computer. You can register your phone number with www.donotcall.gov.au

Just had a call from 000 11976000 -- it was an automated message saying that I'd been selected for a prize of $999 from Qantas towards my next flight! Wow!! All I had to do was press one and "go through the steps" to find out how to redeem my "prize".
I paused for a moment, thought it through, and hung up -- even though it was an Australian voce recording and sounded quite real.
I've not flown with Qantas in over a year, haven't entered any competitions ... and surely they would phone me in person if they were handing out prizes? I hoped I hadn't been a suspicious idiot and came straight online to check if my negative vibe was correct. A bit relieved when I found many people with dodgy calls from the same number.

Asked to confirm my name, then when I asked where they were calling from (only showing as 011976000) said it was Sydney. I said I was going to google the number and the line went dead strangely enough.... no idea why... couldn't possibly be a scam ;)

Just received a new telephone scam call (had stepped out to a neighbours for literally 5 minutes and voice mail recorded it)
Recording was:
Notice from Australian taxation office. The reason for this call is to inform you ATO is filing a lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file please call immediately on our department number (02) 8011 3555. I repeat (02) 8011 3855
The voice is a recorded voice type – more electronically put together than someone speaking it.
The number it came from is primarily the giveaway – 0011 976 000 – so, originates from overseas and not Australia.
