Sydney uni are the last uni that needs donations. This number was some overly excited 2nd yr student talking about sending the SAM alumni magazine (which i never received anyway) via email rather than post in order to conserve the environment.. then she asked for a one-off $20 donation to help students find accommodation. . Ridiculous. . Sydney uni has money coming out of their ears !

As a Usyd graduate burdened by a large fee-help debt, I'd rather not make additional payments.

I agree with the other comments and also object that an undergraduate student obviously had access to my academic records as she knew all my courses and qualifications. I donate to the farmers who need the money not students who can work their way through Uni as I and many other have done.

I added them to my contact list with the name "Sydney Uni asking for $", and then added them to auto-reject.

This number called me twice and sometimes three times a day for over a week. The calls were received even on Friday and Saturday nights after 7pm. No voicemail, text message or email was ever sent as an accompaniment or explanation for the calls. Definitely a scam.

Picked up and a young woman was chatting to her friend. Only thing she said was "oh my god I'm going to kill myself". When I said "hello" she immediately hung up. Clearly wasn't expecting an answer. I only hope she was saying that in just.

They rang my mobile; I didn't answer. Then my home phone rang; I didn't pick up. Would never donate to this place. I struggled to study, as well as work there. My boss at the time used to get annoyed that I needed to attend my lectures (during my lunch break); yes, you read correctly. I guess he was stupid and didn't realise that we were actually working for a 'university'. Amazing how hypocritical some supposedly highly educated professors are.

Just thanks all for the info. Got caught off guard when the phone number came in and answered it. The young gentleman was nice enough but I guess when you explain the reality of what a University degree cannot do for you when your are sick and injured and out of work because of it all.

As others have mentioned, it is Sydney uni contacting alumni students for donations. However it is not for donating to the uni as such but charities that the uni run, some for teaching children how to read and such. Bit annoying the amount of times they call you though...

Say they are doing a survey for University of Sydney. Want to know how I am doing since graduating. Glad I didn't answer it - my husband gave it to them. FYI graduated from Master's program a dozen years ago and still get the SAM magazine several times a year. Alumni usually do a campaign once or twice a year by "snail" mail with no hard push.

I was called, to be told "It is really nice to get paid", then they hung up. Didn't sound like a legitimate call from Sydney Uni alumni / grad fund / etc., or even a proper scam. Unless someone is trying to sabotage the fund by making prank calls guaranteed to annoy people who are intended to think it is coming from Sydney Uni.

Keeps calling me on a daily basis, even after I blocked this number. When the call is rejected from my mobile they immediately call my home landline phone as well! Very annoying... Surprised to find that this is from USYD - thankyou to the others' comments, as I did not know this. As if I haven't paid them enough money already!

Yes, it's U of Sydney fundraising and they are relentless, calling both my landline and mobile on a regular basis. Their constant badgering and inability to convince me that my donation would go to students in real need rather than buying yet another professor (for e.g.), means I no longer respond. End of rant.
