This a company that i WORK FOR. the company name is Millwood Brown under the umbrella of NATIONAL FIELD SERVICES, which is a market research company. based in sydney mascot 256 coward street. One of their clients is NIELSON TELEVISION AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT. who do statistics for television networks. if you ever see in the paper or on the news, for example, that 20,000 people tuned in to watch the state of origin game, those numbers actually come from a panel of 5,500 households which REPRESENT AND REFLECT THE AUSTRALIAN POPULATION. i.e. a smaller model of the population.
the reason why we ask what people for DEMOGRAPHICS and TECH is because to get a more accurate estimate of the viewers, we need households with a particular amount people, with a particular age group, who have a particular type of technology.
it's not a scam, to do this job, someone like me needs to have a good conversion rate, at least 3 out of 4 people we talk to we must do the survey with or else we're kicked off. please at least listen to them for a little bit and do not hang up.
most the surveys actually take only 3-4 minutes. good interviewers can do it in just under 2 minutes if you tell them to.

Perhaps a death by a thousand cuts would suffice to stop them calling me. I would love to strip the skin off them piece by piece.

It's a company working with Neilssen TV ratings, they are researching for the coming survey and have to qualify each number so that they have a cross section of the community. Nothing dodgy here.

I have a contact in my phone book called "DO NOT ANSWER", and I saved all numbers such as this one under this contact...... Easier to handle when grouped ;-)

If you're with Telstra ring 1800 805 996, the unwelcome call hotline. They will block up to 15 numbers for you - free of charge. If like me you're getting Private number on the caller id, they'll put a trace on your line - free of charge for a month. They ask you to answer each call, for around 5 seconds, then make a note of the time and date of the call. They can then find the number of the private call and block it and issue a cease and desist letter to the holder of that number.

It's funny reading the comments above. The Good People of Australia never fail to amuse and perplex us. Australia seems to be a nation of morons - and they all have mobile phones!

I ignored the call yesterday but answered it today just to see who it was. It's some survey people and they want to get a cross-section of something. I asked him where he got my number and he said it was randomly generated. I asked him to add me to their internal "do not call" list but he kept trying to explain what they were doing and that it wasn't what I thought it was. He said they'll call back at a more convenient time but I told him not to (he didn't sound too happy about that). I added the number to my Block list.

Survey company. They like you to get plenty of exercise by hanging up just as you get to the phone. Suck it up Andrew and TNMRI we have earned the right to loathe you.

I just got a call from them on my landline even though my number is on the 'Do Not Call Register'. I have just filled in the complaint form on the Do Not Call Register website against this organisation and I urge everyone who is on the register to do the same. If your mobile and/or number is not on the register, it should be!

Calling me on a Sunday afternoon? Really? The one afternoon a week that a large majority of Australians have an afternoon with the family to do whatever they want. If you think I'm spending my day off answering research questions, think again. If you're a genuine company, why don't you leave a message? Blocked and on auto reject

These callers are parasites. I answered 2 calls from them in 1 night so I could tell them not to call me again, but they just hang up as soon as I answer. So, Momo, how do you tell them to stop calling you if they wont speak to you?

I received a call on my mobile from this number claiming to be conducting a survey on behalf of the ATO and when asked if I had used any online ATO services, I instinctively answered, 'no'. He thanked me and hung up!!

This is legitimate research for Nielsen Television Audience Measurement. It forms the first stage of the TV ratings, ultimately to represent the many different types of households in Australia and the changing way we access TV and technology. This helps Nielsen to update the National TV ratings Panel (the sample of homes that help calculate the audience figures). The media industry relies largely on these accurate audience figures to function.
I see a lot of comments about the Do Not Call Register. The DNCR only applies to telemarketers/sales calls. Research calls and charity calls are exempt from the register. If you want to stop receiving these calls, listen to what the caller has to say first - let them explain the call. If you don't wish to take part, you can simply decline politely or ask them to take you "off the list" and they'll be happy to do it for you. Cheers.

You're better off answering the phone and telling them you are not interested and not to call back. They won't bother you anymore. If you keep ignoring it, the system will just keep redialling.
