Got a call & message from "Jemer" @ Optus. Apparently they have completed my request - not sure what the request would be. Whilst the message did come through amongst my other Optus messages the actual call did not display as being a call from Optus, just showed the number (02) 9174 3000. The message received had a link for me to clink on (Don't worry I haven't), I never answer a call I don't recognize and always search the number when I can. I am glad I did especially after reading everyone's comments in relation to this number.

Exact same thing here. I personally rang Optus customer services myself to have an issue resolved with my account, then received a call from this number mid way through whilst still in the middle of talking directly to an official Optus rep.

Caller: Claiming to be Optus (02) 9174 3000 I ordered a new phone online from Optus, about a week ago. Today I get a call saying they are from Optus wanting to confirm my details. I gave them my DOB and surname. I didn't think anything of it. Till they just called again asking the same thing. I said no . He said we need to confirm your identity. I said not now call back later.... I will be blocking them. I feel so stupid. I never get scammed.

Caller: SCAM Heavy Indian accent and can hear other telecommunication’s in the background. Sounded like the usual scam telemarketers. Could not understand them and asking for my personal details. If this is legitimately Optus… you sold your selves out to a foreign country who’s know for their scams. I can’t trust Optus anymore.

Caller: Optus level 2 support monkey This number appears to be very well spoof targeted by those with less than honourable intentions.
This is very unfortunate, as it can be really, OPTUS level 2 backroom support (please keep this in mind before you issue any profanity).
OPTUS know this, yet their level 2 backroom support.staff persist in asking for all the exact same identity info the nasty people want and need to go about their nefarious undertakings.
Recently staff are less offended, when I push back, simply offering to pass "small" stuff by SMS, "larger" stuff via the account's preexisting email address.
Remember always maintain a zero outbound information policy, but be polite about it.

Caller: Optus supposedly I suspect that these scammers somehow have access to Optus database. I did have a chat via the Optus app about an hour before the first call came from this number. They've left a message saying trying to reach me about case number xxxx but I was never assigned a case number. The caller sounded like a lady with an Indian accent. Potentially may have been former call centre staff who have somehow retained access to our data.

Caller: Optus I got a call from an unknown number, so I didn't answer it. I checked online whether this may have been a known scam number. A message was left. It was Optus responding to a complaint I made a few days ago about how they would resolve the complaint. The caller knew details of the complaint and responded to matters I had raised. The caller did not ask me to call back, or go online etc. I take this as a legitimate call. I am posting this as I have read a number of comments above, where people suspect this number to be a scam number, as in my case it seems to have been a legitimate call.

Caller: Possibley Optus Likely to be optus but they asked to confirm a lot of id data even the security code from optus app, definitely over what normal business would ask so i refuse to reveal.
Optus has bad record of keeping customer data safe, i dont see any efforts to improve the cyber security from the process here. When i got calls from cba, i press the link in cba app to verify myself, nothing needs to be revealed to a rep over the phone, that makes me feel safe, not when i talked to optus.

Caller: Pretending optus I just talked to optus through app to report an internet down yesterday. Today I got this scam call from scammer and she said to offer me compensation to get my details with strong Indian accent. I just surprised how fast they got this information and wondered how low lever that optus protect private data.

Caller: Optus Was Optus confirming that my recent cancellation of an NBN appointment meant they could close the case as it was still open the next day following appoint cancellation (made the appoint through the Optus app). They called and left a brief voicemail saying they would call back, and they called back within a minute. I answered and the whole thing only lasted 38sec with me telling them they could close the case. No issues. I imagine the number is a legit Optus service number that is sometimes being used by scammers to cover the scammers actual number.
