Caller: Supposedly Optus Call from this number, I answered and was met with silence. I accidentally called back when searching number on my phone and got a “this is Optus enter the number” message. Obviously spoofed number.

Caller: Optus I got a call from an unknown number, so I didn't answer it. I checked online whether this may have been a known scam number. A message was left. It was Optus responding to a complaint I made a few days ago about how they would resolve the complaint. The caller knew details of the complaint and responded to matters I had raised. The caller did not ask me to call back, or go online etc. I take this as a legitimate call. I am posting this as I have read a number of comments above, where people suspect this number to be a scam number, as in my case it seems to have been a legitimate call.

Caller: Possibley Optus Likely to be optus but they asked to confirm a lot of id data even the security code from optus app, definitely over what normal business would ask so i refuse to reveal.
Optus has bad record of keeping customer data safe, i dont see any efforts to improve the cyber security from the process here. When i got calls from cba, i press the link in cba app to verify myself, nothing needs to be revealed to a rep over the phone, that makes me feel safe, not when i talked to optus.

Caller: Pretending optus I just talked to optus through app to report an internet down yesterday. Today I got this scam call from scammer and she said to offer me compensation to get my details with strong Indian accent. I just surprised how fast they got this information and wondered how low lever that optus protect private data.

Caller: Optus Was Optus confirming that my recent cancellation of an NBN appointment meant they could close the case as it was still open the next day following appoint cancellation (made the appoint through the Optus app). They called and left a brief voicemail saying they would call back, and they called back within a minute. I answered and the whole thing only lasted 38sec with me telling them they could close the case. No issues. I imagine the number is a legit Optus service number that is sometimes being used by scammers to cover the scammers actual number.

As it appears Optus has not learned anything going by the complaints above. I too just received a call from this number (02) 9174 3000 and no one replied. So l hung up. I also wish to point out that I have put in a formal complaint that after 24 months that I just read on my contract. Not once did l receive a email to inform our mobile is paid for and yet my husband's contract started in 2020. Why is he still being charged the same amount $65?? What happened to "if your device is paid off, you'll no longer be charged device payments" as stated in your FAQ WTF, Optus!! Taking advantage of your customers!! Were is our $1000+CREDIT you owe us!! You will be hearing from us soon!!! Your online viewing of our account is a bloody joke!! Why is our contract not visible? Why is the amount not monitored by you or adjusted!!

Caller: As with the other comments so called Optus representatives Poor accent, muffled originator. Optus mentioned. Demands my name and DOB. Refused. Called them scammers. They followed up with many SMSs over the past week. Checked out with staff at Optus store who confirmed that it’s NOT their number. Confirming scam. Just hang up and block these scum.

Caller: (02) 9174 3000 Missed call from this number. No voicemail. Guessing it may be an optus person as I have recently switched from them to vodaphone for the cheaper plans.

Caller: Optus It was a legit Optus service person following up an issue I had raised - and spoke to them with earlier. If they use a (same) generic number - probably should let us know. :-)

I called Optus 1800 550 395 to enquire about plans. It was silent on the other end then the line hung up. Almost immediately this number called me, when I picked up it was silent on the other end.

I lodged an Optus complaint a couple of hours ago regarding my data being hacked in 2022. I lodged a complaint via their online form. I just received two text messages from Optus regarding a number to call plus a mobile call at the same time from this number (02) 9174 3000.
UNSAFE: Since receiving those two texts plus mobile phone call, my mobile phone is now repeatedly turning itself on and off. How can anyone trust any communication received from Optus under these circumstances?
OPTUS, if you're reading this, it appears your website security is also compromised because all of this occurred immediately after simply using your Optus online form to lodge my complaint, which means I can't securely go direct to Optus to tell them about this.

Caller: Optus This is Optus' sales team. I confirmed it with the Optus service department. They should do better in identifying the number, but it was legitimate.
